Marvel Legends Retro Collection Lizard
The Lizard’s tail is connected via this peg in its butt.
Doctor Curt Connors is one of Peter’s mentors whom he highly regards at his college university, after the good doc injects himself with an experimental lizard-DNA based serum meant to regenerate his lost arm, he undergoes a transformation that turns him into the dangerous, feral creature known as the Lizard!
Taller than most Marvel Legends, the Lizard stands roughly 7.5 inches tall.
Surprisingly, the figure has no waist joint, just an ab crunch joint.
The Lizard comes with a long, powerful tail. Spider-man has been smacked back by it more than once while fighting the Lizard.
The default head looks a bit goofy and cartoonish, but it actually captures the look of the Lizard back when he was first drawn in the comics back in day by Steve Ditko. I guess Ditko was going for a garden variety house lizard when he drew this guy back in the day.
Thankfully, the set does come with an alternate, more “savage reptilian” head . I think this is the head we all want to go with.
The only downside is that we don’t get clawed hands to go with this modern “feral” look for Dr. Connors. Good thing he still comes with some decent alternate “closed” hands though.
For extra accessories, we get various flasks for the Lizard’s “mad scientist” moments, where he sometimes becomes lucid enough, he begins plotting to change all other humans into lizard people like himself.
For those curious about the chemistry props, the tall one is called the Erlenmeyer flask, also known as a conical flask. While the round type is called a Boiling or Florence flask
Overall, I love it! It’s a great update to a classic and I’m glad Hasbro decided to include both the classic and modern heads for this guy. I do wish it came with razor-sharp claw hands but I guess Hasbro prioritized the classic comics look over the modern “savage” design in that regard.
I’m also glad Hasbro didn’t decide to just redeco the BAF Lizard from a while back and re-release that one. It had a lot of problems with it and just was not the best Lizard overall (the “hunched” look with bent knees being the top issues with it).
