G.i. Joe Classified # 118 Metalhead

Destro’s Iron Grenadiers’ walking anti-tank soldier. Metalhead is bit unhinged and loves to blowing stuff up with his weapon systems. While he may be skilled when it comes to engineering things that go boom, he’s somewhat slow when it comes to competently completing mission parameters and often gets sidetracked a lot, much to the consternation of Cobra Commander and Destro.

In the DIC cartoons his real name is revealed to be Stuart A. Finley.

Hasbro also included an alternate hairpiece for Metalhead without his targeting visor.

For weaponry, his vest has a removable knife.

Metalhead also comes with a scoped rifle. The same one we got with the Snow Serpents.

Removable ammo magazine.

He also comes with a secondary machine gun, which is also the same as the gun we got with the Cobra Snow Serpents.

Again, removable ammo magazine.

Of course, Metalhead’s main mode of attack is from his weapons command system, which fire anti-tank missiles mounted on his back and hips.

Too bad the missiles can’t be loaded directly into the launchers for the backpack, unlike with the thigh launchers.

The backpack launchers have some decent articulation to them this time around, for more practical aiming. Unlike the original, which just fired on an angle based on Metalhead’s posture.

Hose connections go here.

Using a state-of-the-art voice-activated weapons’ command system integrated into his blast suit, all Metalhead has to do is visually guide the missiles with his visor’s laser-sighted targeting computer and yell “bang” to complete the firing sequence.

Thanks to his unique loadout, Metalhead is capable of firing multiple missiles from his backpack rack as well as his “Hip-swivel” holster tubes. All while staying relatively mobile and hard to pinpoint around the battlefield.

“Bang!”

The set comes with six missiles, with 3 different types of removable effects parts.

Lastly, Metalhead comes with a helmet. It’s a heavy-metal inspired modernized take on his classic “bullethead” cap from the vintage toyline.

“Range: 120 meters. Bang!”

“Yeah!”

Overall, a great release. We get a terrific figure that generally captures the look and feel of the character from the cartoons, plus the addition of the effects parts and alternate hair pieces are a really nice touch.

Metalhead is arguably the most popular character to come out of the DIC-era G.i. Joe cartoons, mainly due to his goofy antics which annoy Cobra Commander to no end. He even did the final episode recap instead of someone from the Joe team.

Hasbro originally had an oddball codename for this figure in the preorder listings, it was supposed to be “Capt. Caveman” (named after the character from the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons). It was not indicated on the shipper boxes though.
