Transformers C-01 Missing Link Optimus Prime
Similar to the vintage toy, the missiles and wheels for Roller need to be cut free from the sprue tree.
Thanks to the improved transformation, we now get actual headlights for Prime in truck mode, instead of the gapping fist holes of the original toy.
The Autobot symbol is painted on this time around. This sticker was the first to peel off back in the old days due to the studding on Prime’s shoulders.

Introducing newly-added articulation to the vintage toy models, the Missing Link series adds a lot of new play possibilities to the classic figures!
Prime even now features ankle tilts to make him stand flush on surfaces even when his legs are spread.
Optimus comes with his iconic Ion Blaster.
Thanks to the new articulation points, Prime can totally recreate his pose from the original box artwork. Why it took Takara 40 years to come up with this play gimmick I’ll never understand.
He also comes with his Energon Axe.
To equip the axe, just open up the bottom clasp and plug the handle into Prime’s fist.
Naturally, Optimus comes with the Autobot Matrix of Leadership.
Roller
Optimus Prime’s little drone scout module. Small and fast, Roller can slip behind enemies usually undetected.
Thanks to the new articulated slot, you can mount Prime’s rifle on Roller at an angle.
I forgot to take a photo of it, but you can actually rotate the slot around and give roller his cartoon-accurate rear light.
Prime’s trailer
“Desert Dog Formula” markings on the tires still present.
Similar to the vintage toy, the trailer opens up to reveal a Combat Deck.
Too bad, it seems like Takara dropped the spring-loaded launcher gimmick for Roller.
Some sticker details are pre-applied. You can actually add some more stickers on the platform, as the set comes with an optional stickers sheet, just like with the vintage toy.
Repair/ maintenance drone
The seat for Diaclone pilot is still there.
Prime can load himself up to his Combat Deck.
The original gas pump, hose and nozzle pieces are also present in this version.
While it was never shown in the cartoons, the repair drone can also be positioned to help Prime fight while in vehicle mode.
A brand-new feature for this toy is the ability for the repair drone to be detached from the trailer.
It even has wheels so it can roll around. Cool.
Lastly, the trailer can go into full maintenance mode for Prime.
Prime’s rifle can be posted onto this spot in the corner.
Optimus Prime with his two separate modules. According to Prim’e bio, any damage or pain inflicted on any of the units is felt by the other two. While Optimus can survive losing his trailer and Roller, the same cannot be said for the opposite.

The accessories are also very different for each figure (Prime’s Blaster is painted on the C-02)
Overall, a pretty amazing set! The new articulation really adds a whole new dimension to this 40-year-old figure! The poseability really is something!
I really wish they tried a decade back when things weren’t so expensive and maybe we could’ve gotten a much more expansive lineup while reissuing the original G1 toys for a new generation.
Admittedly, though, I do miss the Roller-launcher gimmick from the vintage toy and I wish they kept that in here. But the new gimmick for detaching the repair drone is a nice bonus too.
Takara Tomy already announced Missing Link version of Bumblebee and Cliffjumper as of this writing, so let’s hope they continue to revisit the G1 roster some more.
