Robot Paradise RP-01C Cassette set #2 (Masterpiece Overkill, Slugfest, Buzzsaw and Scout)

This set comes with an outer plastic baggie to protect the box.

Since this is a Third Party, non-official item, it doesn’t come with a faction symbol. It’s best to get some stickers from Reprolabels/Toyhax.com to make this guy more “toon-accurate”. Alternately, you can also use “water slide decals” to make them look even more flawless (you won’t see the edges, unlike with stickers) but I’ve never really had the proper skills, or time (usually needs to be individually cut first) to work with those.

For water slide decals, most folks recommend the one from Ocean Studio. Here:

Personally, for me, this set can work just fine without applying any Decepticon faction symbols since you can’t really make them out behind the guns for Rexadon and Thagomizer.

The weigh in:
– Corax (Buzzsaw) – 34 Grams
– Rexadon (Overkill) – 30 Grams
– Thagomizer (Slugfest) – 42 Grams
– Marvin (Autoscout) – 30 Grams

Rexadon stands roughly 3.25 inches tall.

Diecast parts:
– Corax (Buzzsaw) – Main section of the body
– Rexadon (Overkill) – Main section of the body, feet
– Thagomizer (Slugfest) – Main section of the body, feet
– Marvin (Autoscout) – Main section of the body

Each Cassetteticon comes with their own carry case.

Corax (Buzzsaw)

Buzzsaw is another avian-themed Decepticon Mini-cassette similar to Laserbeak. Operating as a Spy, Buzzsaw can pinpoint and photograph any object from as far as 20 miles away. Fancying himself as an artist, Buzzsaw seeks to make “art” out of the scraps of his victims.

Corax comes with Twin Mortar Cannons. The figure is a redeco of Corvus (Laserbeak) from the RB-01B 4-pack set.

Same with Corvus, you can flip out the little camera from the figure’s forehead. I wouldn’t push it all the way out though, as it seems fragile due to its size.

The designs on Corax’s feet allow for connection to hardpoints on Acoustic Wave’s shoulders and forearms.

Rexadon (Overkill)

A savage Decepticon with a tendency to overdo things, Overkill is usually too busy attacking that he tends to forget his mission unless constantly reminded. Functions as a warrior for the Decepticon forces.

Rexadon comes armed with 2 batteries of Motion Missiles, each capable of locking onto any moving object larger than a baseball. The missiles explode with deadly force upon impact.

Try to use the figure’s tail to help balance out the really small feet on the figure.

The figure’s opening jaw features some really nice paint apps.

Unfortunately, due to the figure’s design, his head cannot tilt all the way down. It can only go down to 45 degrees. At least it does feature some neck rotation.

In the original G1 cartoon series, Overkill only appeared in one episode (“Call of the Primitives”) and didn’t have any speaking lines.

Thagomizer (Slugfest)

Slow and dim-witted, Slugfest is easily provoked and often tends to go into berserker rages for no reason. Functions as a messenger for the Decepticons when in the field. Unfortunately, his stored messages tend to become ruined due to his violent outbursts.

Thagomizer comes with a pair of solar-powered Vibro-Cannons mounted on his sides. The plates on his back can function similar to the teeth on a chainsaw, capable of almost cutting through anything.

The figure features an articulated tail.

As with Overkill, Slugfest only appeared in the same single episode (“Call of the Primitives”) in the original G1 cartoon run.

Marvin (Autoscout)

Appearing in the episode “A Prime Problem”, the Autoscout is a drone deployed to analyze objects or situations deemed too dangerous for any Decepticon to approach.

The little sensor array can be rotated. Cool!

The set comes with Korlonium Crystals for the Autoscout to handle, just like in the episode it appeared in.

I honestly have no idea why Fans To – err, Robot Paradise went with the name “Marvin” for this little fella.

The new Cassettes team!

Overall, a pretty good set. The figures here are all pretty well done and on par for the course from this particular company in terms of quality and paint. I’m glad we have Fans To—err, Robot Paradise making Masterpiece level figures of guys we would probably never see in the official line. Come to think of it, there doesn’t seem to be any other company making these particular characters as of this writing.

Simply put, this set is a definite must-have if you’re trying to complete the Soundwave Cassettes crew.

That said, I think I’ll pass on the RP-02 Acoustic Blaster for now. I think I’m good with the MP version for my Soundblaster fix. Although, I do wish Robot Paradise sold Night Bat (Ratbat) separately, but it is what it is.
