Marvel Legends Silk and Doctor Octopus
Doctor Octopus
Otto Octavius was a promising genius scientist before being driven mad after one of his experiments went awry. The same experiment gifted Otto the ability to psychokinetically control his mechanical harness’ arms even from a great distance. Using his genius to turn to a life of crime, Doctor Octopus is one of Spider-man’s most dangerous foes!
The figure is a redeco of the same Doc Ock figure that came in the SP//dr wave, this time sporting more comic-accurate deco.
Doc Ock’s glasses were green on the previous release, this one is sporting the correct color for classic iconic look of the character. The heads in this set also sport better paint detail than their predecessor.
The set comes with an alternate “serious” head instead of the default “angry” head we got with the SP//dr release version.
Ock’s lower tentacles are marked with X’s on them to make them more obvious.
The lower tentacles are all-new and now fixed in a different orientation, designed to be less space-consuming for the figure.
The previous version’s tentacles had a wider pose and sometimes looked awkward.
Originally, Doc Ock’s tentacles were made with titanium, later on at some point in the comics, they were upgraded to Adamantium.
The best tentacles for Ock are actually the ones that came with the Animated series Doc Ock that came in the Aunt May 2-pack as those bendy thanks to the wires inside. Thankfully, you can swap those in for this figure if you wish.
Silk
Bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers, Cindy Moon gains the same spider powers as Peter. Staying hidden in a bunker for the past 6 years to prevent discovery by vampiric Morlun, Cindy is eventually freed and decides to take up crime fighting as the superhero, Silk.
The figure uses the Shriek body mold as the base this time around. It’s a huge improvement over the previous Silk figures.
She comes with a new bob cut headsculpt and I gotta say I love how Hasbro designers did this figure. Definitely one of the nicer heads in the entire Marvel Legends line.
The set also includes an alternate “maskless” face for Cindy.
Lol… I think I have a huge soft spot for women with this haircut.
In her down time at one point, Cindy used to work as an intern for the Fact Channel News under J. Jonah Jameson.
She comes with an all-new “web-shooting” hand. I think this is a big improvement over the previous release’s effects piece.
Apart from her unique ability to shoot organic webbing from her fingertips, Silk is also mentioned by Peter to be faster than he is, but not as strong. Her “Silk-sense” is also much stronger than Peter’s, allowing her to more quickly predict and easily dodge massive incoming attacks that would give Spidey a hard time.
This new update is definitely a huge improvement over the previous Venom Space Knight BAF wave and Fan Channel exclusive versions of the character.
Originally. Cindy and Peter were written to have a strong physical attraction to each other, caused by their shared Spider-sense. Thankfully, they never consummated that part of their relationship and doubly thankfully, at some point, the writers decided to drop this ludicrous concept since it was getting too weird.
Overall, not bad. While I love the improvements on these figures over their predecessors, this set is essentially just a couple of reissued characters that we’ve gotten before. I would’ve preferred it if they at least paired these with one new character we’ve never gotten before.
While the Silk figure is a great update, the Ock figure doesn’t really come with anything new, really. Which is why I decided to wait the long game for this set to go down in price a bit before pulling the trigger. As it is, this set was not worth the original full price for it.
This set was release as an Amazon exclusive.
