G.i. Joe Classified #110 Cobra H.I.S.S. Fire Team 788

Cobra H.I.S.S. Officer
Cobra H.I.S.S. Range Viper
Cobra H.I.S.S. Infantry

Since this was released during the time of Hasbro’s “no plastic packaging”, the accessories came in paper baggies. Interestingly, the baggies’ contents were not specific to any one figure, but instead were mixed together. This is what came in per paper bag.

Cobra H.I.S.S. Officer

Team leaders for the Cobra rank and file, the Cobra officers take charge on the battlefield when none of the higher officers of Cobra Command are around.

The figure is a straight up redeco of the Cobra Officer mass retail release from the Spirit and Storm Shadow wave.

The Officer comes with a sidearm that can be holstered on his belt and a knife that can be sheathed on his left thigh.

Effects parts can be plugged into the sidearm. Cool!

The Cobra Officer comes with one of Cobra’s laser rifles.

Removable Ammo clip.

Since this is meant to be a laser rifle based off of the Sunbow Era cartoons, it’s fitting that we give it blue effects parts for added visuals, just like in the Sunbow “A Real American Hero” cartoons.

For standard weaponry, the set also comes with a rifle for this guy.

Removable ammo magazine.

Same as before, the Cobra Officer figure comes with a huge rifle holster that can be plugged into his back, as a backpack.

Optional “smoke” effects parts can be plugged into the barrel. Very cool.

Cobra H.I.S.S. Range Viper

Cobra’s elite survivalists troops, the Range Vipers can scrounge up anything they need in the wild (or in the battlefield) to complete their missions. Resourceful and cunning, these Vipers are considered among the most dangerous of Cobra’s operatives.

The figure

The Range Viper comes with a sidearm with extended mags that can be holstered on his right thigh.

He also comes with a Sai dagger that can be sheathed on a loop on his belt on his left side.

The Range Viper comes with a backpack that features a hose that can be plugged into the back of his head.

The set also provides the Range Viper with “climbing pick” AKA an ice axe.

The set provides the Range Viper with a grenade launcher (another homage to the vintage figure’s gear).

The grenade launcher can be stowed away on his backpack.

Effects parts can be plugged into the barrel of the launcher for added visual effect.

Lastly, instead of the original vintage figure’s rocket launcher, the Range Viper comes with a SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) machine gun.

Removable ammo box.

Again, effects parts are included and can be plugged into the weapon.

Cobra H.I.S.S. Infantry

The Cobra Army’s “grunts”, these basic troopers are the “backbone” of the terror organization and are always deployed to the front lines as the main force.

The figure is a straight up redeco of the Cobra Island Infantry.

The Infantry doesn’t come with a sidearm or a dagger, just his trusty bazooka and some rockets.

The bazooka can be hooked to the bottom of the backpack when not in use.

The set comes with two different lengths of effects parts for the Infantry to use. Pretty cool that Hasbro decided to give us varying lengths of effects parts with this guy.

Boom!

Reload!

Cobra H.I.S.S. Fire Team 788

“Go loud!”

“Reloading! Cover me!”

Overall, a pretty dang amazing set!

I had passed on this since I wasn’t quite up for getting non-canon redecoes of pre-existing Cobra troopers. But I gave in when this set went on clearance (?) at a local shop almost a year after its initial release and I really love what Hasbro pulled off here.

The color scheme works really well and they look good together and look even more awesome together with their H.I.S.S. teammates (I’ll have to return to this later when I have the time to break out the Haslab H.I.S.S. Tank set again). All that plus the addition of a LOT of effects parts really add a whole lot of value to this set, on top of the already pretty good figures and weapons included.

Man… I hope I can still find the Cobra MMS set with the Techno-Viper to complete the squad. Hmm…

This set was originally released as an SDCC exclusive and then reissued for an April 2025 re-release through various online E-tailers.

Hasbro’s oddball pre-order codename for this 3-pack was Machiavelli.
