Marvel Legends Captain America (Bucky Barnes)

Captain America’s original sidekick from World War II, James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, is brought back from supposed death as a brainwashed assassin codenamed “The Winter Soldier”. After Cap manages to save his best friend and undo the brainwashing, Bucky eventually carries the mantle of Captain America when Steve Rogers is assassinated by a hypnotized Sharon Carter.

Originally, the “Bucky Cap” body was the base for a lot of the Marvel Legends figures at the time. The figure uses a new leaner “Vulcan” body base now, which has better proportions.

Heh. Bucky’s uniform even comes with a water canteen.

The shield

As usual, the shield can be pegged into Cap’s back for storage.

The new Captain America

Due to Bucky lacking the Super Soldier Serum that gave Steve Rogers his physical edge in combat, Bucky adds a pistol and knife to his repertoire to level the combat odds in his favor.

“When Captain America shoots his mighty bullets….”

Lol.. Why did U.S. Agent never run around with one of these?? He was the unstable Captain America follow-up that was most likely to have it.

Combat knife

Overall, pretty good. The figure is a definite upgrade over the previous release in terms of sculpt and proportions.

I really liked Ed Brubaker’s run on the Captain America series and I really liked the progression that Bucky would eventually take on the mantle of Captain America, after Steve “left” (even if it was just for a “short” while).

That said, I didn’t like the figure enough to jump on the crazy prices the local distributor gave for this release when it first came out. It’s a good thing I decided to wait. The price of this set on local clearance was too good to pass up.
