Marvel Legends X-men ’97 Gambit

As a mutant with the ability to charge kinetic energy into any object he touches, often resulting in explosive effect, Remy LeBeau is one of the X-men’s most effective fighters.

The figure seems like an all-new build. I was expecting it to reuse parts from the Retro Carded Gambit, but nope.

Lol… that exaggerated hair style height. Admittedly, I suppose that is part of what makes Gambit’s overall aesthetics look so cool.

It’s too bad we don’t get any extra “closed” hands for Gambit.

Gambit comes with his usual extendable metal Bo staff for hand-to-hand combat.

Naturally, Gambit comes with a “charged” playing card accessory.

We also get an alternate “multiple cards thrown” hand. This is a reused accessory from one of the older Gambit releases.

Supposedly, when Gambit throws his charged cards, each card carries the force of a grenade when they explode. His charging time also depends on the mass of the object he’s charging. The greater the mass, the longer the charging time. Which is why he prefers using playing cards for his projectiles. They’re fast to charge, easy to throw and he can carry lots of them into battle.

Gambit can also charge the ends of his Bo staff, generating a powerful explosion upon impact. Such an explosion was once capable of knocking down a house in one instance.

Aside from his combat skills, Gambit also has a unique mutant ability to charm anyone through hypnotic suggestion. This ability does not work when the target is aware, or on guard, for this ability coming from Gambit.

More recently, Gambit finally tied the knot with Rogue in the comics, let’s hope things work out for the couple.

Overall, easily the best Gambit figure for me! The lighter coat colors and new head sculpt really make a world of difference, especially if you’re going for a Marvel Vs. Capcom display group.

I missed out on the first release for this guy (too many things on my plate at the time) and I am sooo glad Hasbro did reissue runs for the X-men ’97 line. Prices were really getting out of hand for a lot of the characters at one point. So getting to score one this late into the game without breaking the bank really helped. Thanks Hasbro!

Bonjour, Mon ami.
