Transformers Missing Link C-05 Sunstreaker

“Worker Pilot” / Dianaut figure (Spike Witwicky)

Just like with the original toy, the bottom of the figure’s feet features puny magnets.

With Dianaut figure.

Naturally, as an homage to the vintage Diaclone toy, the pilot figure can ride inside the alt mode.

Jet boosters/ Suntreaker’s shoulder pylons can be added to the alt mode.

Probably the most vain and arrogant of the Autobots, Sunstreaker can be a bit of a sociopath, usually resulting in friction with his fellow Autobots. He needs his brother Sideswipe to keep him in check. Still, Optimus Prime values Sunstreaker’s effectiveness on the battlefield and keeps him on the team. As a warrior who always gets the job done, Sunstreaker knows he’s better than anyone else and isn’t ashamed to let them know it.

As with the other Missing Link figures, Sunstreaker comes with engineering tweaks that have added new joints to allow for more poses in robot mode. These include new joints for rotation at the neck and elbow, outward leg movement, double-jointed knees, as well as an ankle tilt.

I am so glad they painted his shoulders this time. The stickers here tended to peel off on the vintage figure.

These sections are now sculpted. I remember these being just stickers on the vintage (I think, it’s been a while).

Same here:

There are missiles included that you can plug into his wrists, but since this never happened in the cartoons and just appeared on the U.S. vintage toy’s box art, I opted to leave them on the sprue tree.

The new hands feature opening fingers.

Originally, there was a spring-firing gimmick for the hands. This has been removed, sadly. At least they kept the yellow button in there. Hurray?

Lastly, for added G1-accuracy, Takara Tomy included an all-new Flare Gun weapon for Sunstreaker that was never part of the original toy’s accessories.

Overall, pretty neat! We never got a reissue for Sunstreaker, like ever, since the resurgence of the G1 line even in the early 2000s, so this is great news for folks who don’t have him yet. The new joints make a huge improvement! I wish Takara Tomy came up with this a decade ago. The inclusion of a Dianaut as Spike was a cool idea, too.
The only downside is the price. Considering how much this one cost, it’s almost like buying a Masterpiece figure. Maybe it’s more to do with the licensing rights for the alt mode? I don’t know. But it sure is getting pretty pricey to go all in with this line and all its redecos. I’ll most likely be going selective with this line myself.
