G.i. Joe Classified # 167 Monkey Wrench
Bill Winkie is a self-taught expert in explosives. A known pariah in his hometown for selling explosives to terrorists, he renamed himself Monkeywrench and later travelled to Australia and joined up with the Dreadnoks, becoming their explosives expert.
Be warned, for some reason, his hands are VERY stiff, unlike with most Classified figures. Getting him to hold his weapons is a real chore.
For the Classified line, a Dreadnok ain’t a Dreadnok without some tats on him.
The glasses on Monkeywrench are removable, thankfully. It’s a shame we didn’t get that with Torch.
Monkeywrench comes with a colt revolver that can be holstered on his right thigh.
The set provides an alternate neckerchief for Monkeywrench so he can conceal his identity when he’s “working”..
Interestingly, there’s also an alternate hairpiece for the figure, with a matching odd mask. I’m not sure where the design team is basing this on…
But at the very least, it gives us options to customize our own all-new Dreadnok Character to add to the renegade biker gang roster, if we so wish to.
For added weapon variety, the design team included a pair of axes that can be mounted onto the figure’s back when not in use.
Lastly, Monkeywrench comes with his iconic Trident Harpoon gun.
Overall, pretty good! It’s a big improvement over the corny Monkeywrench figure we got back in the Modern Era 3.75” line where all they did was use an Outback figure head and called it a day (grr… that still irks me off until today). The new concept weapons and alternate head gear really add some much-needed play options to this character.
I do have one complaint though, I wish the design team thought to include some explosives for this guy, as that is his whole specialty, but alas…. At least they got his main weapon right.
Hasbro’s oddball internal codename for pre-orders for Monkey Wrench is “Krusty”, the clown from the Simpsons.
