G.i. Joe Classified # 172 Pythona

A royal messenger sent by the ruler of the ancient civilization of Cobra-la to Serpentor to fulfill the latter’s destiny, Pythona is a deadly assassin who can kill her prey with her poisonous claws and various deadly living weapons from Cobra-la.

Gotta admit, I am impressed they went all in with new tooling for this release.

Her cape features cutouts. I guess this is a new concept, as the animation models never showed this.

I love that her cape features some texture and isn’t just some random piece of black cloth.

She comes with two versions of her ponytail. I guess the shorter one is for when she is hooded. I didn’t use it in the following shots though.

How Pythona looks when we are first introduced to her in the opening minutes of the G.i. Joe 1987 movie.

I love how her eyes peek through the slit of her hood. Really cool.

The set comes with several accessories, some based on the “gear” she used in the movie to bypass several layers of Cobra security. Starting with these serpents that can apparently chomp through electrified fencing.

Next, she comes with an alternate right hand with her poison claws exposed. Her claws can extend out and slice through a foot of solid metal, as we see in the opening minutes of the movie.

Pythona comes with this peculiar organism, that releases knock out gases when squeezed.

The deadly Cobra-la Assassin then uses this strange weapon that can shoot meters of adhesive wraps that can ensnare its target completely in less than a second.

She also has an alternate left hand that simulates rising steam from her acidic touch.

Finally, she has this unusual-looking sucker weapon that attaches itself to its target’s face.

The set also provides Pythona with the clam-looking thing that serves as a hologram projector of sorts when it is open. Too bad it doesn’t show the Broadcast Energy Transmitter inside.

The jewel that “answers all of Zartan’s questions (plus buys his loyalty)” is also included with the figure.

As an additional bonus, the set comes with these “worm blades” that Pythona can use as slicer discs. These never appeared in the movie, but they are a welcome addition to her weapons.

Overall, a pretty darn amazing set! The figure is really, really nicely done; the cloth cape is perfectly executed, plus the set comes with so much stuff!
The only downside, though, is that she can’t properly hold all of the accessories. I guess they forgot to give her extra hands to hold her strangely shaped gear. It’s annoying, but workable, as you can see in some of the pics. Still, it seems like a major oversight to have.
I also wish she came with pairs of her acid hands and claws instead of just one hand per side. That would’ve made more sense.

Hasbro’s oddball internal codename for Pythona is SP Kyle. In reference to the South Park character, I think.
