Beast
Hank McCoy is a brilliant mutant scientist and geneticist and has been around since the original X-men team first formed. As a member of the mutant superhero group, the X-men, Beast’s body eventually undergoes a secondary mutation, which changes his appearance into a sleeker, more feline look. This all happened during Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly’s run on the New X-men comic books.
He comes with a copy of Astonishing X-men Saga #1.
Beast comes with an alternate “growling” head. This is the default head for this figure.
This look for Beast would forever be iconic to the Astonishing X-men books (as that’s the only era this look appeared).
While the idea of changing Beast’s decades-old look was interesting, it didn’t really go over well with the fans, with later writers eventually deciding on switching Hank back to his more iconic design.
Silver Surfer
Norrin Radd of the planet Zenn-La offers himself to the planet-eater Galactus in order to spare his home world. Becoming the Silver Surfer, he is imbued with the Power Cosmic, now able to travel across space at the speed of light and manipulate various forms of energy. All in the search to find suitable planets for his giant master to devour for sustinence.
Silver Surfer comes with a copy of Silver Surfer issue #1.
Naturally, the Surfer comes with his iconic board.
It’s a shame Hasbro didn’t include the extra hand that came with previous Surfer figures, which allowed him to better hold his surfboard.
I thought long and hard on whether to keep this guy not, as we have already gotten a lot of Silver Surfer figures in the recent years. I eventually decided to still keep him, as the pinless joints and the improved head sculpt really make this guy look more streamlined compared to his predecessors.
Phoenix (Rachel Summers)
Rachel Anne Summers comes from an alternate (Days of Future Past) timeline in the X-men saga and is the daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey. She gains similar powers to her mother and also able to establish a link to the cosmic Phoenix Force. After being accidentally flung back into the past by the Phoenix Force, she joins up with other heroes to form the superhero team “Excalibur”.
She comes with a copy of Excalibur #1.
Be careful when swapping out her fists, those spikes on her wrists really hurt!
Even before becoming the next host of the Phoenix Force, Rachel was already a gifted and powerful telepath, just like her mother.
She comes with an alternate “Phoenix Force” possessed head.
She also comes with a pair of really big wings, for when she is channeling the cosmic powers of the Phoenix.
To attach the wings, you will have to unplug the fists and then put the wings into the forearms and then return the fists back.
With this figure’s release, we now have all of the founding members of Excalibur.

Feral
Maria Callasantos is young mutant with a troubled past. After she joins up with the superhero mutant, Cable, she becomes one of the founding members of X-Force, which functioned more like a strike force to help the X-men when they need it. Her mutant powers include superhuman speed and agility, as well as having her own regenerative healing factor to allow her to recover from serious wounds.
She comes with a copy of X-Force #1
Lol… I think this is the first time we’re getting the wrap-around cover for a “comic” in this sub-line.
The full wave
Overall, I enjoyed this set. A pretty good mix of fan favorites that complete certain teams (Rachel and Beast) as well as some updated figures (Black Widow, Silver Surfer) for fans who need them.
That said, I decided to pass my copies of Daredevil and Black Widow to a good friend (he’s a bigger DD and Widow fan fan) and just keep the ones that I really wanted out of this wave.
