Action Toys Mini Action 08 Voltron Lion Force (ACGHK version)

As part of the exclusive set sold at the Hong Kong ACGHK convention, this release comes with chrome-plated versions of the Blazing Sword and Spinning Laser Blades accessories.

The lions all come prepared for combination out of the box. To transform Black Lion into its alt mode, you’ll need to do some parts swapping with the front legs, as well as the tail area.

For the arm lions, you will need to plug their respective tails in.

Black Lion
Piloted by Keith Kogane (Akira Kogane in Golion), the Black Lion is the main command unit of the team and forms Voltron’s body (and head).

Red Lion
Piloted by Lance McClain (Isamu Kurogane), the team’s second-in-command. The Red Lion specializes in combat in extreme heat environments, even being able to withstand molten lava.

Green Lion
Piloted by the youngest (and resident genius) member of the team, Pidge (Hiroshi Suzuishi). The Green Lion is able to navigate easily across woodland terrain.

Blue Lion
Originally piloted by Sven Holgersson and then Princess Allura (Princess Fala of Altea in Golion), the Blue lion excels in underwater missions.

Yellow Lion
Piloted by Hunk Garrett (Tsuyoshi Seidou), the team’s “strong man” with a gentle heart. The Yellow Lion specializes in desert combat.

The leg lions both feature a rotating mid-torso joint. Pretty cool!

Let’s go Voltron Force!

Voltron

Created by King Alfor of Arus, Voltron was the galaxy’s main defense against the evil King Zarkon and his armies from Planet Doom. Following a battle against Zarkon’s witch, Haggar, Voltron is magically separated into 5 lions and sealed away on planet Arus. With the help of five space explorers, Voltron is reawakened and our heroes begin the battle to free the galaxy from Zarkon’s tyrannical rule.

Fully assembled, Mini Action Voltron stands roughly 6.25 inches tall.

The figure features two mid-torso ab crunch joints, allowing for more range of articulation for the body when Voltron is combined.

The hips are also on a “drop down” joint, which allows for higher leg movement and wider leg spreads.

The forearm lions feature triple elbow joints, allowing for greater range of poses when it comes to Voltron’s arms. This little design feature really surprised me and I like it a lot!

To help Voltron stand up better, remember to use the front legs of the leg lions as heels to prop Voltron up.

Spinning Laser Blades

Blazing Sword

Thanks to the really impressive mid-forearm joint I mentioned above, Voltron can hold the sword with both arms, no problem.

Using a Third Party stand to get a really cool slashing pose with this figure.

With the chromed variations of Voltron’s weapons from the ACGHK exclusive pack.

Overall, I love it! The simple addition of well-placed joints we never got before on previous Voltron releases on this thing really makes it a whole lot of fun to pose!
The innovative connections for the leg lions to the Black Lion are cleverly done as well. It’s just really smart.
Action Toys really impressed me with this release. Best of all, they managed to pull it all off with a pretty decent price point too. The only real issue is the size but I think it’s to be expected as the line is called “Mini-Action”. That said, for a 6-inch combining figure that costs less than what Hasbro now charges for their “Leader Class” Transformers figures, this thing is really something.
I highly recommend folks check out this one. You won’t be disappointed.
