Banpresto City Hunter Ryo Saeba & Kaori Makimura
Lol.. the partition of the figure caught me by surprise. It makes sense once it comes together, as it gives it a more 3-dimensional look for the jacket and arm.
While not absolutely necessary, this clear block is recommended to help the figure have a bigger footing and keep it from toppling over.
Ryo Saeba
In the world of City Hunter, Ryo Saeba is a legendary “sweeper” (someone who takes on high-risk jobs such as bodyguarding or underworld investigating) operating in Shinjuku City, Japan. His unbeatable sharp-shooting and fighting skills have gained him quite a reputation as one of the best in the world.
I love the headsculpt here! Very nicely done.
Ryo stands roughly 8.25 inches tall.
Kaori Makimura
Ryo’s partner. She is the younger sister of Ryo’s original partner, Hideyuki Makimura. After his tragic death at the start of the series, she takes over the role of dealing with the more mundane parts of running the City Hunter operations.
Since this look is based on the more recent City Hunter movies, where the duo has been operating for more than a couple of years, her hair’s grown a bit longer than compared to her original 90’s hairdo at the start of the series.
Like Ryo, she needs this clear plastic block to help stabilize her footing on a display.
Since she isn’t as tall as Ryo in the Anime, she’s stands at a shorter height of 7.5 inches.
Partners
They really look great together.
Overall, a pretty sweet set, considering the price for the duo (less than 25 USD). The sculpt details are pretty good and they’re pretty big. It’s also easy to “complete” this set as Banpresto only made these two. Probably the best “value for money” I’ve spent in recent memory.
My only complaint would be the lack of an optional arm for Ryo to hold his iconic Colt Python revolver. Oh well.
Here’s hoping Bandai rolls out proper S.H Figuarts figures of these two someday soon.
