CCS Toys Figscript Ryoma Nagare
Ryoma Nagare was once the team leader of the Getter team and the pilot of Getter 1 and Getter Dragon. After being framed for the murder of Professor Saotome, Ryoma is sent to prison and becomes a hardened man. Eventually, he is released to help deal with the global crisis posed by the Invader aliens, as well as to stop a seemingly miraculously revived Professor Saotome from destroying the world.
I believe this is CCS Toys’ first attempt at making a Super Robot pilot figure? The choice to go with cloth materials is interesting, to say the least. The quality of the material they used here is top notch IMHO.
Too bad they went with plastic chains, but I guess it’s better than having rust forming on the chain and eventually staining the cloth material.
Ryoma here looks VERY different from the old 1970’s Anime. I guess prison time really changes a man? lol… I do wish they went with a lighter skin tone for the figure, though, Ryoma’s skin tone didn’t look sa dark in the Anime.
The figure comes with shoulder holsters for his two guns.
Of course, Ryoma needs his torn-up trench coat to complete his iconic “Shin Getter” saga look.
The sides of the coat have a very thin wire running through to help you put the coat into dynamic poses.
Figscript Ryoma stands roughly 6.25 inches tall (7 inches counting the tip of his scarf).
The set comes with a wristwatch/ radio communicator for Ryoma. This briefly appears in the second episode of the Shin Getter OVA.
Ryoma comes with two pistols, a handgun and a revolver.
I find it really cool that the revolver’s cylinder even spins! Though, admittedly, I don’t recall him ever brandishing a revolver in the OVA. Too bad there’s no gimmick for the pistol, however, not even a removable ammo clip.
Impressively there’s even effects parts for the revolver.
Too bad the effects parts can’t be plugged into the handgun though and is only available as an accessory for the revolver muzzle.
Ryoma also comes with a whole bunch of hand grenades. While we never really see him handle any grenades in the OVA, you can briefly see several grenades line the insides of his trench coat in one scene in Episode 2.
CCS Toys decided to give Ryoma a pair of Getter Machine Guns, these are actually the “controllers” he has to use when aiming the actual Getter Machine Guns while piloting Getter 1 in the Shin Getter Robo OVA. Pretty cool additional accesories.
Lastly, Ryoma comes with a big cannon (we see him use it in Episode 2 of the OVA). It even has a spring-loaded firing mechanism which can launch its own bullet. Cool!!!
Aside from the normal face and the grinning face we get with this set, it also comes with a psycho-looking face for Ryoma that I find really hilarious. It seems like his eyeballs go wider apart the crazier he gets?
Remember back when Ryoma was all about martial arts and disciplined training back in the 1970’s Getter Robo cartoons? Yeah… he’s all about guns now apparently. Prison really changes a man… lol…
Display base.
The support arm plugs into the holes on the base. You’ll have to remove the plugs first though.
Alternately, the set comes with optional posts to serve as foot pegs for Ryoma if you don’t want to see the display base support arm. A pretty neat idea.
Overall, an impressive piece. It costs almost as much as most Mafex figures, but at least this comes with cloth pieces. I love how the fabric looks and how the coat and scarf can be posed! I’ve always hoped someone would make figures of our favorite Super Robot pilots and CCS Toys delivers!
My only real complaints here are the eyes. Ryoma just looks so over the top with his eyes so wide apart. I’m not sure if this is an issue with my copy, but most likely, it isn’t. lol… I wish CCS Toys gave us some cool expressions without going to this extreme.
I really hope CCS Toys gives us the rest of the Getter Team so we can have a proper group display at some point. It sure would be a shame if all we get from this impressive line is just Ryoma.
