Chogokin Deluxe 2025 Reissue Grendizer with UFO Spazer

I don’t remember what the original manual looked like, as I never saw it, but I’m fairly sure it doesn’t look like what we have here.

Guardian of the peaceful planet Fleed and coveted by the Vegan Empire for its destructive power, Grendizer is stolen by Duke Fleed as he flees to Earth after the destruction of his home planet by the invading Vegan force. Duke now fights a never-ending fight using the Grendizer to protect his new home from the Vegan Empire.

This figure is a straight up reissue of the vintage toy from Popy (now known as Bandai) first released in 1975. This reissue celebrates the original figure’s 50th Anniversary.

While the toy does have tampo designs on his belly, just like in the vintage toy, I kinda wish they made it a sticker instead so we have the option to keep the spot clean just like in the Anime.

While the figure does sport some basic articulation, a large part of me wishes they did something to Takara Tomy’s Missing Link Transformers and actually improve the articulation of the toy to make it more poseable.

Same as with the vintage toy, the figure’s Screw Crusher Punches can be fired at the touch of a button. The set actually offers spare arms in case you lose them after firing. Just like in the good old days.

For Grendizer’s Double Harken, you’ll have to remove the default pieces in his shoulders for better Anime accuracy. Supposedly the longer Harkens are a new addition to this set?

Spazer

Grendizer’s transport craft. Since the Grendizer cannot fly on its own, the Spazer is required to transport it areas faster. Armed with several weapons of its own, the unit can also be remote controlled by Duke Fleed from Grendizer’s c0ckpit when it needs assistance. The Spazer can also travel across space at the speed of light.

Interestingly, the Spazer no longer has the firing missiles gimmick on its sides.

With Grendizer

Grendizer stands roughly 5.25 inches tall and weighs 170Grams. With diecast parts all over except for the head and arms.

While the Spazer weighs 113 Grams. It has diecast wheels underneath, just like in the original toy.

The rear hatch opens up so Grendizer can dock inside.

Originally, when they first released this set back in the 1970s under Popy, the Grendizer came docked inside the Spazer inside the box. This would be a fatal flaw, as it would often result in the Grendizer’s chest getting seriously scuffed up from transport, resulting in damaged units right out of the box.

Too bad we don’t see a decent Duke Fleed in the Spazer’s c0ckpit.

Since this is a vintage toy, we get some play features with the Spazer, namely it has wheels underneath so it can roll around. Wheeee..

There are also firing gimmicks on the wings of the Spazer, we get the Spin Saucers and Spin Drills. Unfortunately, the firing gimmicks are pre-fixed to each side of the wing, you can’t do Spin Drills on both sides at the same time.

Lastly, the set comes with the Anti-Gravity Dizer Cannon, one of the accessories from the vintage toy, It can be mounted on Grendizer’s fists.

There’s a firing mechanism on it as well.

Naturally, you can also load the Anti-Gravity Dizer Cannon onto Grendizer when it’s docked with the Spazer.

Overall, pretty cool. I never ever thought I would be able to get the original Grendizer toy after all this time. Granted the price does seem a bit steep, especially considering this thing costs what the original Soul of Chogokin Gx-04 Grendizer did when it came out 26 years ago and comes with less detail and is much smaller.

While the toy’s design is pretty dated. I’m still happy with what we got here. I hope Bandai rolls out some more reissues from the vintage Popy line. There is big demand out there. I just hope Bandai realizes it.
