G.i. Joe Classified #136 Starduster

The set comes with a pre-cut “cereal box” on the tray.

Edward J. Skylar is a former circus trapeze artist. After enlisting with the Airborne Rangers, Starduster found his true calling. Using his natural death-defying skills, this daredevil feels right at home wearing a G.i. Joe J.U.M.P. pack into battle (or recon), all while weaving around to avoid enemy gunfire.

The figure reuses some parts from Retro Carded Duke.

As a throwback to his vintage toy’s history, the classic 3.75″ Starduster was originally only available as a mail-away exclusive to the “G.i. Joe Action Stars” Cereal brand. To pay homage to this, Starduster comes with a cereal box (some assembly with tape or glue is required). The back of the box shows the Red Rocket Diner, which was a plot device from a pretty popular G.i. Joe episode back from the day (Starduster never appeared in the episode though).

Thankfully, Starduster comes with a really nice “handsome movie star” head sculpt.

As part of the promotion for this set, Hasbro Pulse framed it as “Starduster shooting a cereal commercial while promoting recruitment for G.i. Joe”, even including the figure posing in an in-scale “studio”. You can check it out over on the Hasbro Pulse site. Pretty cool.

Starduster comes with a pair of binoculars (hey! Just like Duke!)

For weaponry, Starduster comes with sidearm that can be holstered on his right thigh, as well as a small knife that can be sheathed on his left leg.

For heavier firepower, he comes with the standard Sunbow cartoons “laser rifle”.

Alternately, Starduster comes with a grenade launcher weapon as well.

The set comes with effects parts for Staduster’s J.U.M.P. pack. These can also be plugged into his guns as well (I forgot to take a photo, D’oh!).

Lastly, Starduster comes with an alternate Steel Brigade type helmet head.

Using a Third-Party display base to help this guy “fly”.

Overall, I actually enjoyed this figure more than I thought I would. The reuse of the Duke buck was a good choice. This particular blend of colors looks great on him, plus all of his gear looks really good (especially compared to how visually boring the original Starduster was back in the 3.75 “ 25th Anniversary line).

“Buy my cereal!”

Starduster’s oddball codename when it first appeared on pre-orders is Daphne, the ginger-haired female character from the Scooby Doo cartoons.

This set was released as a Hasbro Pulse exclusive.
