G.i. Joe Classified #149 Dial-tone

Jack S. Morelli is the G.i. Joe team’s communications expert. Self-taught with plenty of years of experience tinkering and building his own communications gear, Dial-tone takes pride in his work providing critical telecommunications between Joe members out in the battlefield and back at headquarters.

Dial-tone’s beret can be removed.

Not a fan of the execution of his webgear here, there’s always a gap on the right shoulder no matter how you tug on the thing to go down.

Dial-tone doesn’t come with a sidearm, just a knife on his left lower leg and a non-removable radio on his right thigh.

He does come with a … cellphone? Or is that just a camera?

Of course, Dial-tone comes with his most important accessory, his backpack!

The side features a camera. It can actually be rotated (it’s a bit tight to do though).

The mic arm on the side can be moved up or down, similar to the vintage toy.

Finally, as a new improvement, the backpack now features a deployable keyboard. Really innovative!

As the Joe team’s comms expert, he can also tap into enemy communications, especially with this sound amplifier listening device.

Lastly, Dialtone comes with a brand-new rifle.

Removable ammo clip.

Dial-tone’s cellphone can be mounted onto the top section of the rifle. I guess he likes to record his kills? I don’t really get it, but Ohkaay…

“Kill-cam ready!!”

Overall, not bad. I like the base figure, but the webgear needs some serious work. The backpack is also very nicely done as well as the inclusion of the sound amplifier gear. The new gun is really nice, too, but I really do wish they included his classic rifle, as it was very unique to the character back in the vintage line and one of my favorite accessories for a Joe figure back then.

I wonder if we’ll see this guy done in Retro Carded format with toon aesthetics? I have to admit I never liked the cartoon look for this guy (green shirt AND pants?), it made him look like a guy in a jumpsuit. I can imagine Hasbro doing him for the Tiger Force line though.

Hasbro’s oddball internal codename for pre-orders for Dial-tone is Lisa, from the Simpsons. No idea why though. I guess it’s randomly assigned.
