G.i. Joe Classified Retro Carded Cover Girl
Courtney A. Krieger was originally a successful fashion model before she signed up to join the army in order to find more fulfillment in life. Not just another pretty face, Cover Girl spends most of her time at the G.i. Joe motorpool when not on missions, covered in grease while tuning up the team’s vehicles.
The new headsculpt is a huge improvement over the previous release for sure!
Even better, the set offers us a lot of options for changing her hairstyle, as well as her facial expression. Wow!
The original Classified Cover Girl’s head sculpt leaves much to be desired…
Jacket details
A gearhead at heart, she loves spending her time working around machines during the team’s downtime. The set even provides her with a wrench.
For weaponry, she comes with her sidearm, which is holstered on her right thigh.
For heavier firepower, she comes with the G.i. Joe Laser gun from the cartoons, this time painted in silver.
Lastly, for fun, the set also comes with a sledgehammer for Cover Girl for some reason. I guess she can chase away Shipwreck or Clutch with it…? Lol..
Overall, a terrific update! The new head, plus the classic pilot episodes look for Cover Girl was a good move. I think most folks expected a straight up reuse of the Covergirl body, so it’s a nice surprise that Hasbro gave us a different look for this character.
I haven’t tried it yet, but folks say you can try to peel the glued hair off the previous Cover Girl figure to get her hair and transplant it onto this newer head.
Funfact: Supposedly, the writers for the cartoon series wanted Cover Girl and Thunder (the vehicle driver for the G.i. Joe Slugger) to be a romantic pair, but we never got to see this in the cartoons. More often than not, we see her trying to swat down Shipwreck’s advances.
Funfact 2: In the 1987 G.i. Joe movie, Cover Girl grew her hair long again, while still keeping it auburn, instead of going back to being a blonde.
Hasbro’s internal oddball codename for pre-orders for Cover Girl is “Mindy”, I think from the Animaniacs cartoon?
