G.i. Joe Classified Retro Carded Dr. Mindbender
Dr. Mindbender here is closer to the vintage toy version in terms of the shade of violet on its pants. While the SDCC version has a darker color for its pants which matches up better for the Sunbow Cartoon models. This version also has the Cobra logo on its cape, which was very reminiscent of the vintage toy but is not present on the cartoon model. The cape is also made from a different material from the SDCC one.
Accessories-wise, the doc comes with the same experimenting gear that we got with the SDCC, just missing the jars of stuff.
For weaponry, he only comes with his sidearm.
Overall, pretty OK, I suppose. It was nice of Hasbro to reissue this guy, since a lot of folks missed out on the SDCC release. At the same time, there were a LOT of complaints about the cape of the SDCC figure staining the figure’s shoulder. So at least there’s an alternative option for folks who are particular about that QC issue. Too bad you can’t swap the shoulders around though, as the skin tones are different for the two Mindbenders.
Hasbro’s internal oddball codename for pre-orders for the Dr. Mindbender is “Brain”, from the old Warner Brothers cartoon, Pinky and The Brain.
