LEGO Speed Champions Back to the Future DeLorean
Opening the box is a bit tricky, you’ll need to cut the adhesives on the flap, if you want to preserve it.
The set comes in 5 baggies (with some smaller baggies inside), this setup allows you to better follow the instructions as it’s easier to track which bag you’re currently assembling.
Marty McFly
The main protagonist of the original Back to the Future. He accidentally winds up 30 years in the past after time traveling in Doc Emmett Brown’s time machine.
Like most modern LEGO figures now, the minifigures come with alternative reactions printed on the back of the heads, so you have two different facial reactions by simply just turning the head around on the figure. Marty’s alternate head is angry for some reason.
Dr. Emmett Brown
A genius inventor, he creates the Flux Capacitor, which can transport any vehicle and its passengers to any point in time, as long as the vehicle can reach accelerations of 88 miles per hour, and has a Plutonium reactor in the back. lol…
Doc’s alternate face comes with a head bandage. As the story goes, after accidentally hitting his head on a sink, he visualized the design for the Flux Capacitor. It’s not quite the right option to go with this figure, though, as this happened with 1955 Doc, not 1985.
DMC DeLorean
Doc and Marty’s time machine in Back to the Future. A DMC DeLorean modified by Doc Brown, the vehicle needs radioactive Plutonium (or 1.21 Gigawatts of energy) to power the Flux Capacitor, plus an acceleration speed of 88 miles per hour in order to break through the time barrier and travel through time.

The DMC (DeLorean Motor Company) Logo is really nicely detailed here.
To properly recreate the look of the cables along the sides of the car, LEGO included this little tube that really captures the visual effect when its slotted in. It’s a bit difficult to snag into place at first, but you’ll get used to it.
I really love the license plate on this car. So iconic.
Too bad the gull-wing doors don’t open up like on the real car. You’ll have to remove the entire roof canopy to get Marty and Doc into the car.
I can’t say I’m a fan of the execution for the “windshield” too. The gaps at the bottom just stick out too much.
With the roof off, you can see the Flux Capacitor in all its glory.

With the Flux Capacitor being originally powered by radioactive plutonium in 1985, “young” 1955 Doc manages to jury rig the device to be powered when struck it is with a bolt of lightning. LEGO manages to recreate that gimmick here as well.
For added play value, you can also modify the DeLorean to resemble its appearance in Back to the Future part 2. Just swap out the Plutonium reactor lid with “Mr. Fusion” and slap on the futuristic license plates.

For the “folded” hover wheels, you’ll have to manually swap out the pieces, including popping out the hubcaps, in order to recreate the look of the vehicle in “flight mode”.
Overall, I love it!!!!! It’s been such a while since we got any proper recreation of the DeLorean. I was really hoping NECA toys would do one to compliment their figure line, but it didn’t happen.
I was previously considering getting the big mainline LEGO release for the DeLorean, but was just too ridiculously out of scale for the LEGO minifigs, that I lost interest.
Naturally, I am sooo happy LEGO finally released this vehicle, along with figs of Doc and Marty! All this for a really, really great price, too! Granted there are some negatives, the lack of working gull-wing doors and the design for the windshield, most notably, plus the parts swapping for the hover wheels. But it’s all within acceptable parameters to keep the cost down. This thing is still is going to be one of my favorite pick ups for 2026 for sure!
