Doctor Doom
Victor Von Doom is the ruling monarch of the fictional kingdom of Latveria. A genius inventor, Victor is able to merge scientific technology and sorcery to suit his needs. Donning a technological suit of armor, Doctor Doom lords over his country as a dictator with dreams of world domination.
The figure’s look is based on Doom’s attire during the original Secret Wars comics from the 1980s.
The set doesn’t offer much for Doctor Doom in terms of accessories, but he does come with his restored “handsome” face after he briefly gains the Beyonder’s powers during the events of the original Secret Wars. Doom had severely damaged his face while experimenting on a device that allows one to communicate with the dead. It would later serve as a part of his reason for hating Reed Richards throughout his life.
Be careful not to lose this little piece on Doom’s thigh, it tends to slide around.
If you were a fan of the original Mattel Secret Wars toyline from back in the 80s, then this is particular design should evoke a lot of nostalgia.
Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau)
A former lieutenant in the New Orleans harbor patrol, Monica Rambeau is exposed to extra-dimensional energy and gains super powers. After being dubbed “Captain Marvel” by the media, she begins her career as a crime fighter. After becoming an official full-time member of the Avengers, Monica became the team’s first African-American heroine.
Captain Marvel’s powers allow her to transform herself into any form of energy in the electromagnetic spectrum. She is also able to project various forms of energy from her hands, create holograms of herself, turn invisible and fly at light speed.
Too bad she doesn’t come with any effects parts to showcase her power set. Sigh…. All we get is a pair of extra hands. Thanks a lot, Hasbro.
Thankfully, her “wings” do line up pretty well despite being two different pieces.
Using a Third-Party display stand to get more mileage out of this figure.
Overall, nothing particularly impressive about this set. I only got it since it went on clearance and Monica Rambeau is one of the more iconic members of the Avengers and she is technically part of the Marvel Legends Avengers 60th Anniversary “Beyond Earth’s Mightiest” subline.
