Marvel Legends Chasm

Ben Reilly, the clone of Peter Parker, has his memories erased by the Beyond Corporation. After a misguided attempt at restoring his memories by trapping Spider-man, Ben falls into a tank of quantum-shifting polymer, mutating him into the villainous Chasm.

The figure reuses parts from Spider-man. Too bad he doesn’t have pinless joints.

As Chasm, Ben now gains new powers, such as the ability to generate ectoplasmic Energy Constructs. First appearing as green slime, the ooze can then harden into anything Ben can think of, from weapons to webbing.

Ben’ Spider-sense has also evolved into a reflexive defense mechanism. Not only does it warn Ben of an incoming attack, his body instinctively generates a construct to automatically counterattack the source.

Chasm also still has all of Ben’s Spider-man powers,

Since Chasm is technically not “Spider-man”, I guess Hasbro decided not to include web-shooting hands for this guy.

Overall, pretty meh. The reuse of the now-inferior older Spider-man mold seems really lame. I also wish they included more unique accessories to go with the set, as the crazy weapons are what made Chasm at least a little bit interesting in the comics. I’m glad I waited for this guy to go on deep clearance before picking him up.

On a personal note, I reaaally did not like the sudden turning of Ben into a villain for no other reason than shock value. The whole set up and writing was just too forced. Hopefully future Spider-man writers can fix this terrible mess soon.
