Marvel Legends Classic Luke Cage (Mindless One Wave)

After being unfairly incarcerated in prison, Carl Earl Lucas volunteers for a secret “super-solider” experiment to lower his sentence. The experiment gives him unbreakable skin and well as super-human strength. Eventually escaping and taking on the alias Luke Cage, Luke goes out into the world as a “Power Man, superhero for hire”, lending his new unique abilities to anyone for the right price.

Since Luke was created in the 1970s, his costume was a bit over the top by today’s standards. Tiara, check!

Big chain for a belt, check.

“Watch out, New York! Power Man is on the prowl!”

Thankfully, in more recent decades he’s now more sensibly dressed.

While the Avengers tackled the usual big time supervillain threats, Luke (along with Iron Fist) tended to work more on “cleaning up the streets” from regular thugs.

Overall, pretty decent. While the original Toybiz version still holds up, I think the proportions on this guy looks better. I just wish Hasbro didn’t cheap out and gave us more accessories for this guy, it’s one of the reasons I held off getting this guy for so long.
I originally passed on this as I really can’t look at this outfit and take the man wearing it seriously. But since this is the outfit that blends best with classic Iron Fist from the two-pack, I decided to pick this one up when it was on super clearance at a recent local Toycon, just to keep the “Heroes for Hire” duo in 1970’s outfits together.
