Marvel Legends Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch)
The effects parts are packed on a separate tray.
After trying to save his sister from gangsters, Danny Ketch becomes bound to the demon Zarathos, becoming the third Ghost Rider to appear in Marvel Comics continuity.
As the “Spirit of Vengeance”, Ketch gains supernatural strength, invulnerability, the ability to generate hellfire. His most powerful attack is his “Penance Stare”, which makes his victims experience the trauma they have inflicted on all others in their life in an instant.
It’s later revealed that Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze (the original Ghost Rider) are long-lost brothers and that their family bloodline is somehow cursed to be bound to the Spirits of Vengeance.
Even just being surrounded by the flaming effects parts the figure already looks really cool.
The figure comes with a flaming-end chain whip accessory.
The figure’s jaw can also open up.
I miss the old metal chain whip accessory we got from the old Toybiz days, but this looks really cool for posing too.
I know we’re supposed to remove the chain on his body when we pose the figure with the whip accessory for comic panel accuracy, but it is a bit of a hassle to take it off. I think it’s better to just leave it on.
In the comics, the mystical chain links can come apart and become shuriken-like projectiles that hit their targets and reassemble on Ghost Rider’s body.
Naturally, Ghost Rider comes with his cool bike.
The only way for the bike to stand is to use the effects parts included.
There’s no kickstand for the bike.
The effects parts can only be placed one way. You can’t swap their positions around.
Lol.. “cursed gas cap”. In the comics, Danny originally had to touch the gas cap of his bike in order to transform. This would later be revealed to be a psychological block Danny placed on himself in order to transform. He would eventually overcome this block and would no longer require touching the cap to transform in later issues.
Ghost Rider looks REALLY cool on his bike.
Lastly, the set comes with an extra accessory piece to “boost” the bike up so it looks like Ghost Rider is popping a “wheelie”.
Too bad we don’t get additional effects parts for the front wheel in this pose.
Overall, I love it! My first exposure to Ghost Rider was back in the 90’s and it was with Danny Ketch, not Johnny Blaze. Much like Kyle Rayner being my favorite Green Lantern, I always prefer Ketch as Ghost Rider over his predecessor. While it took Hasbro almost two decades to do Danny in their Legends line, I think they pulled it off pretty well.
My only real gripe is that the figure is a bit on the shorter side when posed next to most Marvel Legends figures. Which is a shame. Thankfully, it’s not too obvious when you put the figure on his bike.
