Marvel Legends Hulkbuster (Adi Granov Comics version)

Created by Iron Man to allow him to go toe-to-toe against the Incredible Hulk if ever the need arises. Aside from the standard Repulsors and Unibeams, the armor also featured a magno-hydraulic pseudo-musculature which greatly enhanced Iron Man’s strength, as well as impact-resistant carbon composite plating to help withstand blows from the Hulk. This iteration of the Hulkbuster Armor is a subset intended for the Model 13 armor.
The figure is based off of comics artist Adi Granov’s take on the Hulkbuster Armor, as illustrated on the cover of Iron Man Vol. 4, issue 12 from way back in 2009. The issue shows Iron Man trying to stop his own armors after his control of them becomes compromised.

The funny thing is, while Adi Granov did the cover for the issue, the actual Hulkbuster featured inside the issue looks very different from the one on the cover.
Hulkbuster stands roughly 9.25 inches tall.
I find it amusing this armor has exhaust pipes sticking out of its back. What happens when Hulk clogs them up somehow??
The figure features removable chest and back pieces, I guess this is to allow for thinner packaging? Not a bad idea, really.

While the sculpting sort of alludes to articulated fingers, alas, they are not.
The same is true of the figure’s toes, no articulation here either.
The suit only has single elbow joints.
These shin panels are made of soft plastic, not sure if they’ll warp if not positioned right when returned to package but be mindful, just to be sure.
It’s a shame we don’t get any mega-sized Repulsor effects parts for this set.
Apart from removable chest panels and extra hands, we also get a Tony Stark head.
Popping off the Hulkbuster’s head is easy enough.

The sculpt work on Tony’s head is pretty good.
Hulkbuster smash Hulk!

Overall, not too shabby, but not quite the impressive release it should’ve been.
While the set does look good thanks to all the bulk, it doesn’t come with much in terms of accessories. I wish they included some effects parts or something to spice this set up. If it wasn’t for the removable chest panels, this set would be super underwhelming.
There are times I miss the old Toybiz days when we got something this epic, came with a base stand, plus a comic, all for roughly just 10 USD. Granted, that was 20+ years ago, but c’mon…
Interestingly, the Hulkbuster went on clearance in less than two months after it’s initial release in some markets, such as Hong Kong. I wonder what happened? Lack of interest?
