Marvel Legends Spider-man Retro Carded Spider-Venom

[lienbreak]

When Eddie Brock and his son, Dylan Brock, go to war over control of the Venom Symbiote, the Symbiote chooses Peter Parker to become venom again to intervene.

Set as a side-story event, Peter’s role in the Venom War was mostly dealing with the Arachniote, a huge legendary Klyntar monster. A mere touch would absorb anyone into the creature. It was noted that even Knull feared it. Spidey had to team up with Jackpot (Mary Jane Watson in tech gear) to save the day.

The set comes with an unmasked Peter Parker head. Interestingly, the headsculpt is not based on artist Greg Land’s or artist Iban Coello’s take on Peter during the Venom War books.

One side of Peter’s face has some Venom goop sculpted on it.

Still, the sculpt looks good. Though I wouldn’t think of Peter Parker if it wasn’t attached to a Spider-man body.

Also, for some reason, the costume’s design is a bit conceptual with this figure. Spider-venom looks exactly like how Peter’s original Venom costume used to look back in the 80s during the Venom War event, with some minor changes to the shoulders added. But it doesn’t have the white parts on the hands and feet seen with this figure.

Admittedly, I do prefer the look of the figure like this, it adds more character.

Very cool.

To make things more interesting, the writers decided to have Spider-venom now have the ability to spawn (lol) metal chains aside from regular webbing. Not sure how that’s supposed to happen, but I gave up on understanding comics logic decades ago. A chain-web accessory is included here to highlight that new power (even if it was just temporary).

Too bad the chain isn’t bendy or anything. It would’ve been so much better if was.

Using a Third Party stand to get more mileage out of this very cool figure.

Overall, very nice. The figure, despite not being quite comic-accurate, looks really good thanks to the added white highlights. The addition of extra hands, alternate head and chain-webbing make this one of the more accessory-packed Spider-man figure releases we’ve gotten in a while. I’m glad I tracked this one down, it was pretty much hoarded all over town for some reason.
