Marvel Legends Spider-punk Ver. 1 & 2

Spider-Punk Version 1

An alternate universe version of Spider-man from Earth-138. Hobart “Hobie” Brown was bitten by a radioactive spider just like Peter from Earth-616 and gained the powers of a spider. Mostly anti-authority due to the nature of his world’s issues, Spider-punk fights against his world’s corrupt government by operating as an outsider and a rebel. Traits he somewhat carries over to the Spider-society.

In the main 616 Marvel Universe, Hobie Brown is hero known as the reformed villain, the Prowler.

Pretty good printed details on the back of his jacket. The letters F/N/S/M supposedly stand for “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”.

The figure doesn’t come with alternate normal hands. Just these default hands and an alternate “web-shooting” hand on the left.

The set’s biggest accessory is the obviously the guitar.

Cool as the guitar is, it doesn’t really feature any special weapons or anything in the movie. It’s just an extension of Hobie’s punk motif and incorporates his music and art as part of his activism.

Spider-Punk Version 2

A color variation of Spider-punk. This “pink” color of Hobie Brown is a reflection of his mood as shown in the movie (in his world, a person’s body color changes depending on their mood). He turns pink when he’s around those he cares for. Alternately, he changes to the color gray when he’s serious.

The figure is a straight up redeco of the same figure from wave 1, now sporting a new “unmasked” head.

Same as before, his jacket sports the letters F/N/S/M.

Interestingly, this version sports additional paint details.

As with the first version, we get the same pair of hands for this figure.

He also still comes with his guitar.

Too bad this set doesn’t come with an alternate masked head for Hobie.

Of course, the biggest reason to get this set is for the Hobie head for the version 1.

Lol… how all that afro fits under that mask is a mystery unto itself.

With the version 1.

Overall, kind of ok. Not the best Spider-man figure, but at least it comes with a guitar instead of just a pair of hands. I could’ve done without the pink redeco version, though. But I am happy to have been able to get both this late into the game.
Spider-punk was one of the interesting characters in the “Across the Spider-verse” movie. Previously, the version 1 of this figure was going for VERY high prices locally. After getting lucky and scoring this guy at a steal price at the recent local Toycon, I also managed to track down the version 2 the same day. I think the only character I’m missing now is Pavitr Prabhakar, the Indian Spider-man from the movie. I can wait for the figure to go down in price a bit I reckon, as there’s not really much hype for him, unlike Hobie and the main characters.
