Moonknight
Marc Spector is the avatar of the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu. A former mercenary, Marc uses his amassed fortune to arm himself with weapons and armor to protect the innocent. He is also bestowed the unique gift of insight and visions of prophesy on occasion by Khonshu.
This costume is based on Moon Knight’s appearance when he was with the West Coast Avengers. Moon Knight was gifted by Khonshu’s followers with new “golden and ivory” weapons, which also increased Marc’s strength depending on the phases of the moon.
Marc actually suffers from has dissociative identity disorder, where he has several identities that take over from time to time. He’s sometimes billionaire businessman Steven Grant, other times a taxicab driver named Jake Lockley, and occasionally, he even helps out the police as a consultant named Mr. Knight.
I love the additional hinge joint for Moon Knight’s wrist. This allows for some really cool poses with his weapons.
The set comes with three small crescent darts and a large one.
I didn’t realize it at the time I was doing the photoshoot, but you can plug in the small darts in between Moon Knight’s fingers for a proper pose.
Moon Knight also comes with a golden Ankh accessory. It wasn’t used so much as an actual blunt weapon for bludgeoning, but instead worked as an early warning tool by glowing when danger was close by.
Of course, Moon Knight comes with his iconic staff.
Bloodstorm
Hailing from the Earth-21710 universe, Ororo Munroe in this timeline met Dracula before she became a member of the X-men. She becomes a vampire and later travels to the main Earth-616 universe where she joins the X-men. Even forming a close romantic relationship with the time-displaced Cyclops.
The figure reuses some parts from the “Punk Storm” from the old Apocalypse BAF wave, particularly below the waist.
Apart from her original mutant powers to control the weather, Bloodstorm also has the general power set of vampires. She can also transform herself into mists or a flock of bats, as well as control others through hypnosis. Unfortunately, she once lost control of her cravings back on her home world and killed Professor X and Beast.
Interestingly, Storm is not affected by direct exposure to sunlight for some reason.
Bloodstorm comes with an alternate “calm (?)” head. Lol.. you can still make out her fangs though.
It’s a shame this set doesn’t come with any effects parts for Bloodstorm.
Sadly, this variant of Storm would eventually die at the hands of the X-men villain Ahab (Roderick Campbell from Earth-811) when he impales her with his silver-tipped spear during an attack on the X-men.
Lilith
An ancient demon goddess and sorceress capable of teleportation, summoning and utilizing eldritch energy to strike her enemies, Lilith is one of the most powerful magic casters in the Marvel Universe. As she leads her army of offspring to attack the Earth, the more she conjures, the stronger she physically becomes. She is often enemy of Marvel’s supernatural heroes such as Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange and Blade.
The set doesn’t really offer much for Lilith, just extra hands. Not even effects parts.
Dracula
The original Lord of the Vampires, Vlad Dracula is the leader of the various vampire sects from around the world and forms the Vampire Nation. Which has an uneasy alliance with the rest of the world and its heroes.
Back in 2010, Dracula received a “modernized” look in Marvel Comics, which first appeared in the “Curse of the Mutants” saga when he dons a medieval-looking set of armor. This armor has more recently been seen in the “Bloodhunt” saga in 2024.
Like Bloodstorm, Drac comes with an alternate “calm” face, too! But somehow, it seems a bit underwhelming to me.
Dracula comes with a sword. Too bad there’s nowhere for him to sheathe it on his armor when it’s not in use.
While the armor does look cool, I find that the cape really limits some of the posing options for this figure.
Daimon Hellstrom
As Marvel’s “son of Satan”, Daimon was born from the union of Satan (later retconned into the demon “ Marduk Kurios”) and a human woman named Victoria Wingate. Daimon possesses incredible magical power emanating from his “Darksoul”, the demon half of his soul. Despite his mixed heritage, Daimon has sworn to protect humanity from the dark forces of the underworld. An expert of the occult and the arcane, Hellstrom works as an occult investigator and exorcist.
Daimon doesn’t come with much, just his pitchfork and extra hands. In the comics, his trident is made from the mythical metal called netharanium, which can only be found in the demon realm.
Hellstrom could project mystic energy in the form of hellfire from his trident, causing excruciating pain on its target through direct contact of a person’s life force.
I kind of wish Hasbro included his cape. Looking at him like this makes me thing of Namor, the Sub-mariner
Aside from channeling and projecting Daimon’s Darksoul, the trident allows Daimon to fly for short periods of time by producing thrust.
Brother Voodoo
Dr. Jericho Drumm is a practicing psychologist, gifted with the ability to control mystical energies derived from the spirit-gods of voodoo, the Loas. This allows Jericho to control flames, animals and even grant the ability of teleportation. Brother Voodoo can also summon the spirit of his deceased brother Daniel for help, as well as grant him double his physical strength.
The figure uses the same Brother Voodoo headsculpt that came with the Dormamu BAF wave.
Brother Voodoo eventually becomes Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme for a time, after the Eye of Agamotto chooses him to be worthy of the title.
Brother Voodoo comes with his staff for channeling his Loa powers.
He even comes with effects parts. Nice.
It’s too bad his cape gets in the way of articulation. I really like the body type they used here. It’s an improvement over the Bucky Cap body type Brother Voodee we got from way back in 2015, with the SDCC Book of Vishanti set.
Interestingly, he also comes with an extra right “gripping” hand for holding the Eye of Agamotto… only we don’t get this accessory? Huh..
Hellverine
Appearing in the “Ghost Rider/ Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance” crossover, Wolverine is captured by the Project Hellfire group and the demon Bagra-ghul is bonded to his body. The group plans to use Hellverine to hunt down and destroy other mutants, but is stopped thanks to help from Johnny Blaze as the Ghost Rider.
I like the fact that even with the flames, his Adamantium bones are still shinning through.
I love the execution of the translucent parts here. The design team really did the head right.
Naturally, the set comes with alternate hands with the flaming claws popped out.
While I never read this particular Wolverine adventure, I do like the visual design and execution for this figure.
Blackheart
A demon created by Mephisto from accumulated evil energy, Blackheart has vast magical supernatural powers, as well as increased strength, speed and healing. Blackheart also has telekinesis and even has the ability to teleport as well as summon armies from hell.
I am really impressed with the detailed sculpt work and violet highlights they used for this figure. I do wish they added some highlights to the body, too. Not just the head.
I know the tail is supposed to be bendy, but I just can’t seem to get it to pose downwards right so it can help support Blackheart. So instead, I opted to bend his knees to help balance the figure out. Sigh…
Again, it’s a shame we don’t get any effects parts to go with this guy either. He just seems so empty without anything around him.
The set comes with an alternate left “pointing” hand for Blackheart. Which I found really cool.
Originally created to be a foil for Daredevil, Blackheart would eventually go on to become one of Ghost Rider’s recurring opponents in the comics.
Since Blackheart has no soul, Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare has no effect on him.
The full wave
Overall, a pretty decent set. I mostly got this since it adds a lot of new characters to the collection roster and this set seemed to be harder to backtrack compared to most Marvel waves of late (at least locally, here in Manila). I could’ve done without Hellverine and Bloodstorm but the rest of the wave fills a lot of gaps in the roster.
