Marvel Legends War Machine 2022

Whoa.. Hasbro modified the inner packaging again.

Sigh… the effects piece still got warped…

Based on War Machine’s appearance in the Marvel Vs. Capcom video games. This suit of armor is given to Tony Stark’s best friend, James Rhodes. In the video games its basic attacks are the essentially the same as Iron Man, with minor variations. War Machine also has a unique Super Attack added to his arsenal that Iron Man does have (War Destroyer).

The figure is a straight up redeco of the Retro Carded Iron Man figure with Proton Cannon.

Similar to the Retro Carded Iron Man, this figure has a deeper recess in its chest cavity for attaching the “Unibeam” effects part to.

“Unibeam!”

Unfortunately, whoever decided to pack in this effects part didn’t do their research properly, as War Machine never actually had a Unibeam attack in the MVC games. He fired his “Shoulder Cannon” instead for the special move.

The set has optional hands and Repulsor Blast Effects parts for War Machine.

Lastly, the figure comes with an energy effects part for when it does its “victory” pose.

Comparison with Iron Man

It’s too bad Hasbro didn’t repack the Proton Cannon (or War Destroyer) for this figure. You can borrow the accessory from Iron Man if you have the set.

The bad news is, War Machine does NOT come with any gripping hands, so the best you can do is just have him pose next to the Proton Cannon without actually holding it.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the set. The color scheme has its own unique charm and it comes with a lot of extra accessories (they need to do better in terms of packaging though, as one of the effects parts pieces came in bent). I also do wish it came with its own Proton Cannon accessory (or “War Destroyer” weapon) so you can have it do a “dual super attack” pose with Iron Man, but it is what it is.
