Marvel Legends X-men ’97 Rogue and Gambit 2-pack

Gambit

Roguishly charming and street smart, the former mutant thief, Gambit, likes to unwind with his fellow X-men in a friendly game of basketball.

The figure is based on Gambit’s appearance in the X-men ‘97 episode where the X-men chill out with a game of hoops.

I’m surprised Hasbro spent for all-new tooling for this version of Gambit. They’re usually stingy when it comes to new tooling. Also, I expected more abs from this guy. He is supposed to be pretty athletic, not “dad-bod” looking.

Too bad gambit doesn’t come with any effects parts cards this time around.

Nice rubber shoes.

The figure comes with an optional right hand which is holding onto a basketball.

Let’s go, mon ami.

Rogue

The southern belle with the mutant ability to temporarily absorb the powers and memories of anyone she touches, Rogue has to fully cover herself up even during a friendly game of basketball to avoid accidentally coming into contact with her friends.

Honestly though, Rogue’s new head is the real reason anyone would go for this set (it ain’t selling just for flabby Gambit). It’s pretty much the best head sculpt for her in the Marvel Legends line, hands down.

I haven’t tried it myself, but you can definitely swap the head with the solo carded ’97 Rogue. It also kinda works with the Target exclusive comics-style Rogue but the connection is very tight, due to the larger ball joint on that one’s neck, or so I’ve heard.

While the use of cloth for her shirt was a pretty cool idea, it does somewhat limit her left shoulder’s poseability.

Game on, sugah!

I love how in the comics, these two are properly married. Hopefully things stay that way…

Overall, a pretty decent set. While I reckon half-naked Gambit’s not really high on most folks’ want list, X-men fans will definitely want the great headsculpt for Rogue. It’s pretty much the best-looking Rogue in the Marvel Legends line.

I haven’t seen this for sale at most stores (like anything X-men ’97 related), so I’m glad I decided to pre-order this.
