Superior Iron Man

Based on Iron Man’s armor when he was “Superior Iron Man”. After the events of “Axis”. Tony Stark, along with other various heroes and villains had their personalities reversed. While not becoming entirely evil (unlike like the Red Skull who became a good guy), reversed Tony’s personality showed the worst parts of his ego (becoming a greedy, tyrannical narcissist for one) coming to the front.

The armor itself is created using parts from the Venom Symbiote DNA, which lets Stark control it similar to how Eddie Brock is able to issue mental commands to his “other” as Venom. Officially called the Model 50, the Endo-Sym Armor is a full liquid smart-metal which hardens instantly when it connects to Tony’s body.

Due to the symbiote-like properties of the suit, Tony can control the suit psionically and without the use of electronics. The suit is also protected from the usual weaknesses associated with symbiotes, such as sonics and lightning.

The set comes with the standard Marvel Legends Iron Man Repulsor Blast effects parts.

Another unique feature of the suit is that it can increase its mass and size by adding more of its liquid smart-metal compound, making it even more unstoppable.

Lastly, the set also comes with an alternate “unmasked” evil Tony Stark head.

The nine-issue Superior Iron Man comic ends on sad note, with “Superior” Tony coming out on top against everything Pepper Potts used against him (even using an A.I. “clone” of original “Good guy” Tony), eventually retaining his corrupted personality. “Superior Stark” is then generally hated by the public for turning the populace into addicts for his Extremis app. This version of Tony would eventually die fighting Captain America during the final moments of the “Time Runs Out” storyline, where the main 616 universe collides with the 1610 Ultimates universe, which leads into the events of Secret War. Tony would be restored back to his old “good guy” self after Reed Richards restarts the multiverse and the status quo for the 616 universe is returned.

Probably the most disliked version of Iron Man ever written in the comics?

Black Winter (Thor)

A cosmic entity that devours entire universes, the Black Winter assumes the form of then-current Galactus Hearld, Thor, to challenge the hero before reclaiming his own Herald, Galactus (yeah, Galactus was once the Black Winter’s lackey).

The figure is a retool of the Controller wave Herald Thor, with new head and cape.

I really love how Hasbro executed the cape here. The use of clear parts for the cape was genius!

Naturally, it comes with a replica of Thor’s Hammer (minus the inscription).

Similar to the previously-released Marvel Legends “Herald” Thor figure, the hammer can be placed onto the figure’s belt loop for storage.

Shadowy effects parts are also included with his hammer to recreate his look in the comics.

Wolfsbane

Rahne Sinclair is a mutant and one of the members of X-Factor and later on, the main X-men team. She is able to partially or fully transform into a wolf. In either form, she gains enhanced senses as well as increased agility and strength. She also has accelerated mutant healing abilities.

Hmm.. not the best headsculpt for this figure methinks…

Wolfsbane’s uniform is made of unstable molecules. It can shrink and become her collar when she fully transforms into her wolf form.

Too bad her only real accessories are just a pair of extra hands…

Hmm.. I should really take an updated group shot for X-Factor. We pretty much have all the characters together now.

Ka-Zar

Kevin Plunder is the son of the Englishman who discovered the Savage Land. Found and raised by the intelligent Sabertooth tiger, Zabu, baby Kevin would grow to become Ka-Zar, the protector of the Savage Land.

While possessing no real powers, Ka-Zar is extremely athletic due to his time growing up in the Savage Land. A skilled tracker and hunter, Ka-Zar can survive even in the harshest conditions on the island.

Ka-Zar means the “Son of the Tiger” in the language of the Man-Apes.

Ka-Zar’s knife can be sheathed into a loop on his lower back.

The figure also comes with a hunting spear.

Red Widow

The latest and deadliest Widow to come out of the Red Room training facility, the Red Widow is every bit as skilled and dangerous as the Black Widow, but without any moral restraint. She will use every advantage available to accomplish her mission, no matter how vile.

Aside from her special training, the Red Widow is injected with a version of the Super Solider serum, greatly increasing her physical strength and stamina past normal human levels.

The Red Widow also has a cybernetic right arm, as a result of her last encounter with the hero, Captain Marvel.

It’s a shame she only comes with her bladed staff. In the comics, she usually uses a lot of other bladed weapons, like swords.

In the comics, her true name is never revealed. It’s also doubtful it will ever be revealed, as her creator, Jason Aaron, has already left the Avengers book he was working on.

Ikaris

Leader of the ancient cosmic race known as the Eternals, Ikaris has been on Earth for centuries, possibly dating as far back as the time of Noah’s Ark. Possessing cosmic energy, he is virtually immortal and nearly indestructible. He is also able to regenerate lost or damaged tissue. He also has the ability of flight, as well as project cosmic energy from his eyes and hands.

Admittedly, I’m not all that familiar with the Eternals characters. The MCU movie wasn’t my cup of tea either (I didn’t get a single figure from that movie, even when it went on deep clearance, lol…).

The figure’s skirt design tends to get in the way of the leg articulation.

Too bad the set doesn’t come with any effects parts for the figure.

Cable

Nathan Christopher Charles Summers is the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (Goblin Queen and Jean Grey’s clone). Originally sent to the future as an infant to find a cure for his techno-organic virus infection, Cable becomes a time-traveling soldier who goes back in time to prevent Apocalypse from destroying the future.

This particular costume design is meant to resemble his look from the Marvel vs. Capcom video games.

In battle, Cable relies on his military combat training to survive as opposed to using his powers. While a powerful telepath and telekinetic like his mother, Cable’s powers are limited due to his use in keeping the techno-organic virus ravaging his body in check.

Of course, Cable comes with a couple of sci-fi looking guns.

The “psi effect” for Cable’s left eye is really cool to look at. This guy is the “must have” figure for this wave.

I always liked this version of Cable more than the pouch-heavy comics designs. I’ll probably set this guy up in a Marvel Vs. Capcom display or something.

Zabu

An intelligent Sabertooth tiger that lives in the Savage Land, Zabu is the companion to Ka-Zar and the closest thing he has to living family. Exposure to radioactive mists granted Zabu heightened intelligence, which allowed him to raise a young Ka-Zar, as opposed to eating the boy on their first encounter.

As a Sabertooth tiger, Zabu has all the attributes one would expect, including enhanced senses, razor sharp teeth and claws, which he often uses in combat when helping Ka-Zar deal with poachers from the outside world.

The figure’s jaw can open and close.

The tail also features some articulation.

With Ka-Zar.

I can’t believe it’s been 16 years since the original Ka-Zar and Zabu came out in the Marvel Legends line. The previous Zabu and Ka-Zar was released as a boxset with Shanna O’ Hara way back in 2008! I hope she gets an updated version soon.

The Full wave

Overall, not too shabby. With the exception of Superior Iron Man and maybe Black Winter (they’re not really high on the fan character request roster i think), the rest of the wave is pretty solid. With new characters added to the ever-growing Marvel Legends comic character roster.
