Robot Spirits Classic Grendizer

The mighty protector of Planet Fleed, Grendizer becomes the target of an invasion by the Vegan Empire. Stolen back by prince Duke Fleed, they both escape to Earth, where Duke seeks a life of peace but is eventually forced to take up arms again when the Vegans begin their invasion of Earth.

Robot Spirits Grendizer stands roughly 6 inches tall.

GRENDIZER’S ATTACKS
Screw Crusher Punch! – Similar to Mazinger Z’s Rocket Punch attack, Grendizer launches his forearms at his opponents.

Hanjuuryoku Storm (Anti-Gravity Storm aka Rainbow Beam) – An anti-gravity beam fired from Grendizer’s chest, repels everything into the opposite direction.

Harkens! – The blades on Grendizer’s shoulders eject and form handles for Grendizer to use as a melee weapon.

Double Harken! – Grendizer combines both Harkens into a single weapon for a more powerful strike at enemies.

Space Thunder! – Grendizer’s powerful finishing move. The horns on the sides of his head charges energy and a small horn on its head channels the energy directly at its opponent.

Overall, I love it!! The details, colors and sculpt work are top notch! It’s like Grendizer walked out of the TV screen. It’s a lot of fun to handle too! The use of clear parts for its chest piece is what really makes this figure look impressive on display. The poseability of the figure far surpasses any Grendizer figure to date, too, I think.
I was a bit apprehensive about this one at first, as the regular Robot Spirits line isn’t my usual bag and plus, I find the figures (usually Gundams) small considering the price. Thankfully, the figure is pretty decent in terms of height and accessories.
The only downside is that the forearm connections tend to disconnect a bit too easily. Not really terrible, but it can get annoying.
I really hope Bandai releases a Spacer to pair up with this release. It would be a shame if they didn’t.
On a side note, I passed on the Robot Spirits Grendizer U version, as I really didn’t enjoy the series. I wanted to, but somehow the show didn’t click together for me, whether it was the music, the new characters. I don’t know, it all just felt too cold and distant compared to something made 50 years ago. The robot design for that one was also very, very lanky, for lack of a better term. Malnourished Grendizer? It was just a big no for me.
