S.H. Figuarts Android 20

Dr. Gero was a founding member of the Red Ribbon Army and the organization’s chief scientist. After the original Red Ribbon Army was defeated by a young Son Goku, Dr. Gero began gathering data by observing the boy’s battles over years, eventually creating what he believed were perfect android bodies that he could use to destroy the hero and take over the world.

Similar to Android 19, Android 20 relies on absorbing power from his opponents to increase its energy reserves. This requires direct contact with the target or by absorbing Ki energy blasts and beams fired by them.

While not fully shown in the Anime, Dr. Gero entrusted Android 19 transfer his brain into the Android 20 body. The figure’s hat can be removed and replaced with his organic brain dome.

As with Android 19, Android 20 is an “absorption” model Android, so it comes with small discs on the palms of its hands to absorb enemy ki and life energy.

Android 20 also comes with a damaged right arm from the scene where Piccolo chopped it off while they were fighting. A lot of chopped off limbs that day…

Bandai also included the “kill switch” for the good doctor to use on Androids 17 and 18 to keep the duo in check after he activated them. There’s an extra left hand included for specifically holding the remote. There’s no right hand for this set up though, as he never held the switch with his right hand in the series, I think.

Lastly, the set comes with an alternate “stressed” Super Saiyan Goku face, to recreate the scene where Goku is struggling against Android 19 due to the heart virus.

With Android 19

Supposedly, Androids 19 and 20 were indeed meant to be the original Androids that destroyed Trunks’ future. Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima, commented that the duo’s design looked ridiculous, resulting in Toriyama changing the story with the introduction of Androids 17 and 18 to become the new main threats to the heroes.

Overall, not too bad, but not really great. I suppose the good news is we can finally complete the roster of enemies from the Androids saga, but this set doesn’t really offer much and feels pretty basic.

Personally. I hope Bandai will make Androids 13, 14, 15 from the movies at some point.

This set was released as a P-Bandai Webshop Exclusive.
