S.H. Figuarts Dragonball Z Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku
Whoa… originally released way back in 2013, the figure has gotten a total makeover, it now resembles the character much better and is finally a mass retail release to boot (the previous Super Saiyan 3 Goku was a Tamashii Web Exclusive).
They improved the sculpt on Goku’s long hair from the original.
The halo is removable.
Please remember to put this plastic piece on the halo when you return Goku to the tray, as it will protect the halo from becoming warped in storage.
SS3 Goku’s default face is him smirking. I’m not really liking the smirking face though. It seems off when viewed from certain angles.
The most important thing here is that they fixed the neck joint. It can now hold the head better as opposed to the original which tended to droop backwards due to the heavy long hair piece.
Instant transmission.
The set no longer comes with the blast wave effect of the original, instead all we get is a simple Soul Stage.
Kamehameha!
Overall, it’s a huge improvement in terms of sculpt, plus it’s now more economical to get one compared to the astronomical price of the original SS3 before this version rolled out.
It also runs on the new body design for Goku. Nice.
I am tempted to try and switch regular Super Saiyan Goku onto this new model body, but I’m worried that popping the SS3 head on and off might make it loose. So I’ll pass on that idea for now.
Funfact: Even though Super Saiyan 3 is incredibly powerful, Goku has yet to fully beat anyone in TV series canon using this form (he only fought Majin Boo to a stalemate before time his ran out). He was able to defeat Hirudegarn in “Dragon Fist Explosion!! If Goku Can’t Do It, Who Will?/ Wrath of the Dragon” movie but the movies are generally considered non-canon from what I understand.
