S.H. Figuarts Kurama
Yoko Kurama was a silver-haired fox demon. After being mortally injured, he puts his spirit into the body of a human baby named Shuichi Minamino. He eventually grows up to accept both sides of his personalities. Highly analytical and calculating, Kurama prepares multiple strategies for victory and quickly adapts to almost any situation in battle.
Kurama’s main specialty lies in focusing his demon energy to rapidly grow and control plants, even from just seeds. He usually prefers using roses.
The set comes with several parts one can swap out to make Kurama look more dynamic in action poses.
Best of all, the set comes with a really nice, bendy Rose Whip so you can recreate his iconic attack.
Lastly, the set comes with an extra face accessory for Yusuke.
Gender Mix-up
In the Filipino dubbing for “Dennis” (Kurama’s localized name), the voice actors genuinely got his gender all wrong in the early episodes and thought “Denise” was a girl.
The production team would later correct the oversight by switching to a male voice actor for “Dennis”, even improvising dialogue in a very short scene that would go on to explain that Dennis had simply been disguising himself as a woman while hiding out in the human world and he would be proceeding as his true male self, henceforth, with his new teammates. It worked and it put things back on track. Kudos to the Philippine production team for pulling that fix trick off nicely.
Of course, the production team would eventually miss a cue again with Master Genkai and mis-gender her as a man (Master Jeremiah), when she was actually an eldery woman, but that’s a story for another day. Lol…
Overall, really nice. The addition of the alternate coat tail for his martial arts uniform really adds a really nice extra layer of detail when you have Kurama in his action poses. I also love how the bendy the Rose Whip accessory is too!
With S.H. Figuarts Hiei already announced for next year, all that’s left is Kuwabara to complete team Urameshi!
Funfact: – Kurama is dubbed by Megumi Ogata in the original Japanese dub, she is also the voice actress for Sailor Uranus in Sailor Moon, as well as Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion!
Funfact 2: – David Hayter, the original voice actor for Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, also did the voice work as Kurama in the Yu Yu Hakusho Movie.
