S.H. Figuarts SDCC 2024 Son Goku & Son Gohan & Kintoun

The former champion of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament (Tenkaichi Budokai), Son Goku’s true origins are finally revealed at the start of the Dragon Ball Z series.
Talk about retro! Goku’s face sculpt is intentionally done to recreate his classic look at the start of the Dragon Ball Z series.

Goku comes with an alternate “angry” face.

Of course, this look is to recreate his pose from the opening credits, where he charges up his Spirit Bomb.

Goku also comes with his iconic Power Pole, a magical weapon which extends as long as he needs it to be. Too bad we never really got to see him use this again in the Z series outside of the opening credits.

Son Gohan

Goku and Chichi’s young 4-year-old son. He travels with his father to meet the latter’s old friends for the first time.

Gohan stands roughly 2.75 inches tall.

To allow Gohan to be more poseable, he comes with an alternate set of clothes so he can bend at the waist a little for when he needs to sit down.

You’ll have to take him apart though. Lol!! Yikes!

It’s amazing to see this little guy have a mid-torso joint underneath his clothes.

Goku comes with an optional happy, sideways looking face.

This is to recreate the father and son’s look for the commercial break bumpers during the show’s TV airing.

In order for Goku to be able to hoist his son up on his shoulders, Gohan needs to be fastened with this adapter to hold him in place.

Kintoun Cloud/ Flying Nimbus – Goku’s Kintoun Cloud comes with two optional tail effects.

The curved effect is nice but it will require a Soul Stage to set it upright, otherwise it tips over.

The bottom of the cloud has two holes for you to plug the Soul Stage arms into.

You can also opt to plug in a Soul Stage stand to help Goku stay upright on a shelf if you’re worried he might tip over. You just simply have to remove this cover piece in the back. The gaps are a huge eyesore, though.

To help complete the look, the set comes with an alternate “wind swept” hairstyle for Goku.

Pretty cool, you can recreate his look from the time he and Vegeta were about to do their big battle at the end of the first DBZ arc.

Gifted to young kid Goku in the original Dragon Ball series by Master Roshi for saving a turtle, the Kintoun Cloud can travel vast distances at insane speeds without the rider expending any of his own energy. As the story goes, only those pure of heart can ride the Flying Nimbus.

In the entirety of the series, only Goku and members of his family (including Chichi??) are all pure-hearted enough to ride on the cloud.

Overall, I love it! A lot of nostalgia here when you recreate the poses from the show.
I’ve been waiting for Bandai to release this father and son set since the line started way back in 2010! This set comes with everything one can ask for to recreate the memorable scenes from the original Dragon Ball Z opening credits with Goku and Gohan. The addition of the Kintoun Cloud and Goku’s Power Pole were just the perfect additions to an already impressive set.
The only downside is that this was released as an SDCC 2024 exclusive, so it is VERY expensive now to backtrack this on the secondary markets.
Man, Goku carrying young Gohan was the first drawing I really did well back in elementary (I did it freehand with a ballpen too!). Lol… I think I should still have that thing in a folder somewhere.
