S.H. Figuarts Son Gohan Beast

Based on Son Gohan’s new transformation in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie’s climax. After witnessing Piccolo’s apparent death at the hands of the Cell clone, Cell Max, Gohan’s fury was unleashed and he was able to achieve a new form of transformation different from Super Saiyan.

In this form, Gohan’s hair turns white and becomes a bit longer, similar to his original Super Saiyan 2 transformation back when he first fought the original Cell. When in this form, he is called Son Gohan Beast (originally, he was called “Final Gohan”, but they went with this name instead).

Since Gohan appeared in this form near the end of movie, where his gi is a bit torn up, Bandai decided to copy this particular look for Gohan. Personally, I really wish Bandai gave us a “non-damaged” figure to work with instead.

Interestingly, while in this form, it’s been noted that Gohan has a deeper voice.

As per standard with most S.H. Figuarts, Gohan comes with several facial expressions.

The set also comes with an accessory for base Gohan (sold separately), to recreate his look when he initially triggers his transformation (red pupils).

Lastly, Gohan Beast comes with a blue version of Piccolo’s “Special Beam Cannon” attack effects part, his most powerful final attack as seen in the movie.

I had to use a third-party stand (or Soul Stage if you have it), to get some more mileage out of this figure.

Overall, pretty good. I like the clean sculpt of the figure and I am thankful that we get an effects part to go with this set. Personally, I would’ve loved it if Bandai made a Gohan that came with everything in one package, instead of spreading his various parts all over the S.H. Figuarts DBS sub-line, but it is what it is.

On another note, I’m not sure how I feel about all the new unique transformations for each character in the series now. I guess it’s interesting to see them each evolve differently, but at the same time I miss things being simple like how it was in the old “just Super Saiyan” days.
