S.H. Figuarts Super Saiyan 2 Son Goku

Based on Son Goku’s Super Saiyan 2 appearance during his battle with Majin Vegeta in the Majin Buu Saga. Goku7 manages to greatly increase his power levels, resulting in a change in his appearance. Super Saiyan 2 Goku’s hair is more spiky and electricity crackles around his body in this form.

The figure uses the same new Goku Body, but features a new Super Saiyan 2 head and a new “torn shirt” torso.

Since Goku was “dead” during the Start of the Majin Buu Saga, he was given energy by Fortuneteller Baba to stay on Earth for 24 hours to join the World Tournament. Goku appears with a halo during the story arc, signifying he had already “crossed over” to the afterlife.

Thankfully, the halo is actually just plugged in and can be simply removed.

The halo is really well done and you can almost not see the stand for it regardless of angle, since it’s hidden behind Goku’s hair. Very nice execution.

Goku’s shirt is torn early on in battle after Majin Vegeta hits Goku with a surprise attack and Goku tries to block it to no avail.

For options, Goku comes with a “smirking” face.

As well as a “yelling” face.

Goku also comes with optional hands to recreate his “Instant Transmission” pose, both left and right hands, too. Normally Bandai just includes the right hand.

Lastly, the set comes with an effects part. It’s an all-new release and not a simple reuse of the older “Energy Effect Aura” effects part that was previously offered from Bandai. Featuring a much bigger blast range and wider base.

It also comes with holes for one to peg the “electricity” effects parts into.

The effects parts are actually ball jointed, so they can be moved a bit to get figures into place.

Cool as it is, I do wish the effects part was a bit taller, the height seems really insufficient IMHO.

I lifted up the effects part in this shot and the added height makes it come out so much nicer.

I really do wish they had included a Tamashii Act Stage for this set though, considering how pricey this set was. I just used a third party base to get more poses out of the figure.

You can also drape the effects part (without the base) around Goku to recreate his “crackling energy” aura while he’s in Super Saiyan 2 form.

Overall, I like the set. I love the golden finish on his hair and the all-new aura effects parts. But man, was this set pricey to get!! It’s a Dragon Ball event exclusive so there is that, but for the price I was really hoping they included more here, like maybe Kamehameha effects and maybe a Tamashii Stage Act? Bandai already got their money’s worth from reusing the buck so often as it is.

Also, for some reason, Goku’s faces tends to fall out easily on my copy, regardless of which facial expression used. It can get frustrating at times when you’re trying to get the figure posed properly. I think this is the first time I’ve encountered an issue like this for an S.H. Figuarts figure, at least one that’s this bad.

The figure was released as an Event Exclusive and later on offered on the Premium Bandai Webshop.
