Sentinel RIOBOT Compatible Kaiser
I love how the manual is colored and thoroughly explains the joints system in this figure.
Forced out from his home dimension, Warrior Roar and his battle machine, the Kaiser, would be trapped in the Original Generations universe. Warrior Roar would require bonding to young 17-year-old Kohta Azuma to exist in the mortal plane. Together, the duo would find a way fuse to become a new superhero, Fighter Roar.
As Fighter Roar, Kohta gains super-human abilities and powerful weaponry which allows him to easily defeat enemies and even mecha several times his size.
With help from the Azuma family’s “Extra-Over Technological Investigative Institute”, Warrior Roar’s greatest weapon is now also reborn as “Compatible Kaiser”!
The Battle Force “BF” plate is attached to the figure’s chest by default. To swap it out, you’ll need the little tool included with the set (don’t lose this!!)
Repaired by Kouta’s grandfather, Kisaburo Azuma, the Compatible Kaiser is powered by the technologically advanced “Over Gate Engine”. The machine stands 56.8 Meters in height and features several powerful weapons at its disposal. When not deployed in battle, the Kaiser is stored beneath the Azuma family’s flower house.
Compatible Kaiser first debuted in The Great Battle IV shooting game by Banpresto for the Super Famicom (SNES) back in 1994. He was a playable character alongside Ultraman Powered, V2 Gundam and Kamen Rider ZO. He would later on be added to the Super Robot Wars OG games.
Beautiful ornate details on this figure. Very well done, Sentinel.
Be mindful of the wingtips on the ankles of the figure when posing.
The figure sports a hand with VERY poseable fingers. Very well executed too, none of the fingers popped out while I was posing the hands.
The figure features LOTS of ratchet joints to help hold some pretty cool action poses.
COMPATIBLE KAISER’S ATTACKS
Over Beam – A powerful, short burst beam fired from the jewel on Kaiser’s forehead.
Spiral Knuckle – Kaiser launches its spinning forearm at an opponent, similar to Great Mazinger’s “Drill Pressure Punch” attack.
Remember, you can lift up the entire base plate of the neck to give Kaiser’s head a boost for better head poses.
The forearm can be easily pulled off. No worries about damage since it’s on a diecast joint.
I decided to use a Third Party stand to hold up the forearm to recreate this attack pose.
Kaiser Boomerang – Several sections of Compatible Kaiser’s armor (namely from the shoulders and waist) detach and reform as a bladed throwing weapon.
Remember to fold down this connector for a cleaner look.
An alternate combined skirt plate is included to form a proper handle for the Boomerang.
While it’s never shown in the games, I suppose Kaiser can use the Boomerang as a melee weapon.
Kaiser Burst – Compatible Kaiser’s most powerful attack. An intense energy beam is fired from his chest. The letters “BF” (for Battle Force) appear as the beam shoots towards its target.
As previously mentioned, the “BF” plate is actually attached by default out of the box. The letters BF inscribed on both its chest and forehead stand for “Battle Force”, the name of the Hero team in the old “The Great Battle IV” game for the Nintendo Super Famicom back in the day.
Impressively, the toy features a built-in LED on the chest to recreate it’s “Kaiser Burst” attack. To get it to function, take off Kaiser’s head first, then remove the clear plastic tab underneath which protects the batteries from completing the circuit.
The LEDs run on 2x LR41 Batteries. These come pre-installed in the toy.
To turn on the lights, just press this grey button on Kaiser’s back. Do note that the chest plate needs to be firmly pushed in to connect with the electronics, too. Otherwise the circuit won’t complete and the lights won’t turn on.
The LED is super bright!
To get the look right, you’ll have to pull the sides of the chest piece open and then refold them closer to the center of the chest.
Kaiser Tornado – Kaiser launches several attacks in succession at an opponent. Starting with a dual Spiral Knuckle attack, followed by a Kaiser Burst blast. Compatible Kaiser then kicks its opponent into the air and punches through them with its right arm to finish the combo.
Display base
An adapter piece is included for Compatible Kaiser to be placed on.
As with most Riobot display bases, you can easily pop the center section out if you want a small footprint for your display base.
The Good
-Compatible Kaiser stands 10.75 inches and weighs 656 Grams.
-Diecast parts include:
–All of the main joints
–Crotch section of the figure
-Colored manual.
-Super detailed tooling and paint work!
-Impressive articulation, this thing is so much fun to pose!
-Insane amount of ratchet joints!! The manual is even kind enough to point out everything.
-Clever concept of swapping out the clear green chest piece.
-Batteries included.
-Hyper articulated fingers.
The Bad
-Display base is the same old, generic base we’ve gotten with every Riobot release. No unique customization for these beautiful figures.
-Batteries included (remember to take these out before long term storage!)
The Ugly
No QC issues to report, thankfully
However, it does seem like the skirt plates might become an issue down the road if you remove and reattach them too often when recreating the Boomerang effect. The connection pegs are a bit on the short side so the connection might wear down sooner than later.
Overall, a beautiful, beautiful piece! It’s really stunning to look at thanks to all the ornate details worked in from Obari’s designs. The colors make it stand out on the shelf and it really is fun to handle and pose. I love the ratchets on this thing. It’s one of the high selling points of the figure.
The only real negative here is that you can’t really “feel” the diecast metal since it’s distributed throughout the toy and mostly hidden behind plastic covers. You can feel there’s heft to it, but you can’t just quite pinpoint where exactly (for me anyway).
Definitely one of my favorite purchases from Sentinel!
