Soul of Chogokin Gx-105MMJ Mazinger Z Master Mind Japan

The main contents come in a plastic baggie.

There’s an outer box sleeve included.

The main box.

The manual is a single leaflet printed with reused shots from Gx-105 Mazinger Z Kakumei Shinka.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Chogokin toy brand, Bandai did a collaboration project with Mastermind JAPAN, a Japanese fashion brand started by designer Masaaki Homma in 1997.

Hover Pileder

PILEDER ON!

The figure is a straight up redeco of the Gx-105 Mazinger Z (Kakumei Shinka), this time done in black colors and sporting the Mastermind JAPAN logo on several areas of its body.

Same as with the standard Gx-105 Mazinger, the MMJ Mazinger stands roughly 7 inches tall and weighs 238 Grams (259 Grams with the Scrander).

Unfortunately, Bandai decided to paint the windshield of the Hover Pileder black as well, this time, so we can’t see Koji Kabuto piloting Mazinger Z anymore, unlike with the regular, colored edition. Bummer.

The Mastermind JAPAN logo can be seen on Mazinger’s chest, elbows and knees.

As with the Gx-105 Mazinger Z, this figure comes with the same gimmicks. Such as firing Rocket Punches and Missile Punch.

Unfortunately, again, Bandai decided to mold the “flames” in black plastic as opposed to the orange-colored clear plastic of the actual Gx-105 Mazinger Z, totally ruining the visuals of the effect now.

Missile Punch!

You’ll have to shaft up the torso a bit to give some clearance in order to swap out the belly parts for the Missile Punch attack.

A big part of me wishes they made the missile silver or something. It gets a bit lost in there, thanks to mostly everything being painted black.

Breast Fire!

Jet Scrander

SCRANDER CROSS!

Overall, not much to say here, as it is just a repaint that’s not based on any particular media. I won’t even go into much detail as it’s essentially the same as the Gx-105 Mazinger Z, just with a different deco and nothing else added or improved (in some cases, I consider it to be a step back from the original Gx-105 version, due to color choices on some of the parts).

This one’s definitely one for the completists of the Soul of Chogokin line.

FUNFACT This figure marks the TWENTY-SIXTH release of Mazinger Z in the Soul of Chogokin line, counting all of the various repaints and re-stylings over the past 27 years as of this writing. The recently released Golden Mazinger Z under the Chogokin 50th Anniversary banner will count as the TWENTY-SEVENTH.
