Soul of Chogokin Gx-32SP Gold Lightan 50th Anniversary

Like the other 50th Anniversary Soul of Chogokins, Gold Lightan comes with an outer plastic baggie.

As an added bonus, the set comes with a reproduction of the original Gold Lightan Chogokin figure’s box’s, with some slight modifications.

The box itself is empty of course. No extra manuals or promotional inserts, unlike the vintage toy.

Robot mode

An interdimensional being from the Mecha Dimension, Gold Lightan befriends a young boy named Hiro and takes the form of a small pocket lighter when not in battle. Whenever a threat from the invading forces of King Ivalda appears, Gold Lightan transforms into a giant fighting robot to help his new friends.

The figure is a reissue of Gx-32 Gold Lightan from 2006. Almost 20 years ago! Man, I suddenly feel old.

TRANSFORMATION NOTES

The set comes with fillers for Gold Lightan’s hind legs.

Remember to put on these wrist cuffs, they will help stabilize the wrist joint and make it easier to swap around the extra hands.

Same as before, not much to do with this guy other than a few poses, mainly due to its lack of real accessories.

In the Anime, Gold Lightan usually defeated its enemies with physical attacks, so the character doesn’t really have much to work with in terms of actual weaponry.

Same as before, the set still comes with the busted robot part Lightan presumably yanked out of one of his enemies from the Ivalda Empire.

With its display base.

The Good

-Gold Lightan stands roughly 5.5 inches and weighs 215 Grams.

-Diecast parts include:
–Sections of the torso
–Main Joints
–Front halves of the legs
–Feet

-Comes with a reproduction of the classic vintage toy’s box.

-Styrofoam tray! More recent SOC releases don’t have these anymore.

-Another chance to own this popular Anime character. The last reissue came out in 2018.

The Bad

-Practically a straight up reissue, with the exception of the added retro box.

-Still the same accessories as before.

-No gold plating? Unlike previous releases, which boasted 18 and 24 Karat gold plating, this one does not seem to come with any of that (at least it doesn’t seem advertised to have gold plating, unlike the last two).

The Ugly
No quality control issues on my release.

On a side note, I really wish Bandai included the red felt paper that used to come with Gx-32 Gold Lightan. The “reissue” set looks incomplete without it.

Overall, not much to say about this reissue. This is the 5th time the figure has been released (Gx-32, Gx-32 Silver, Gx-32 Black, Gx-32G24, Gx-32SP). I really wish Bandai added something else in terms of accessories other than just a new extra box.

It also seems like a step back from previous Soul of Chogokin Gold Lightan releases. The lack of the red felt paper matting, as well as the likely lack of gold plating on the actual figure just makes this release inferior to its predecessors in a big way. Although given the insane price of gold nowadays, I can see why Bandai would be cutting back on using actual gold plating for this reissue.

If you really want this guy, then go track down the previous reissue (2018’s Gx-32G24). I think that one gives more bang for the buck, mainly due to the cost of gold now.

Man… I still can’t believe it’s been close to 20 years since Bandai first rolled this figure out. I think I need to go lie down. Lol..
