Transformers DX9 D-11 Richthophen (Masterpiece Powerglide)
Customary character poster (every DX9 release has this I think?).
Since this is a Third Party, non-official item, it’s best to get some stickers from Reprolabels/Toyhax.com to make this guy more “toon-accurate”.
To apply, I find the best way to stick the stickers on is to use the tip of a blade, this way you have more control over the application, as compared to using just your fingers. You can also use the blade to help gently peel off a corner of the sticker in case you didn’t center it right and need to re-apply.
One of the few Autobots who can fly, Powerglide is a showoff, always eager to take flight and display his flight abilities. He is often deployed for reconnaissance due to his speed.
He also comes with a mini figure of Astoria Carlton-Ritz, from “The Girl who Loved Powerglide” episode.
You can even open up his chest to reveal the stylized heart just like in the end of the episode. I guess robots can love humans?
Lastly, he comes with a goofy alien mask, based on the Episode “Hoist goes to Hollywood”.
The mask plugs into the back of his face (this port is also used for attaching his gun when in plane mode.
Richthofen stands roughly 6.25 inches and weighs 119 Grams.
Diecast parts include:
-Parts of the forearms.
I find the heels to either be a bit too short, or the heel joint too loose? The figure tends to fall on its back because of this.
And awaaa-aaa-ay we go!!
Weapon can be attached in plane mode.
The set also comes with a display base for plane mode.
The plane plugs in via the rear landing gear. I wish they didn’t do it this way, but instead used a connection that plugs directly into the figure. As is, it’s a bit of an eyesore to look at.
The plane mode also features various deployable landing gears on different areas of the toy.
Comparison with Takara Masterpieces
Overall, another decent figure from DX9 (I really liked their Omega Supreme and Rodimus Prime). The figure looks good, has great articulation and scales well with the minibots. The only drawbacks are the heel design and the strange placement of diecast only in the forearms. I would’ve preferred the figure had some metal in his feet, but maybe this would make the plane mode unbalanced?
Currently, this is the only Masterpiece scale Powerglide figure out there. No other company has yet released the character.
Funfact – The name Richthofen is actually in reference to Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, aka, the Red Baron, the German WWI ace fighter pilot who was considered the “ace of aces” for his impressive 80 air combat victories.
Funfact2 – The slogan on the front of the box, “You give us the ‘fire’, we’ll give ’em hell!” is actually lifted from a WWII air force promotional poster.
