Transformers Masterpiece Mp-58 Hoist

Openable hood and car doors, which can fit Spike or Sparkplug from the MP-44 Optimus Prime set.

Detailed engine section.

Hoist comes with an alternate front grill; this piece makes the figure more toon accurate.

Hoist’s vehicle mode features a deployable tow bed for other Autobots.

Lastly, Hoist comes with a large claw for his vehicle mode, based on the scene from the episode “Auto Berserk”.

The claw simply plugs into the top of the vehicle mode.

The one bot in charge of maintenance for all of the Autobots, Hoist enjoys his work. He’s always upbeat and cheerful while fine-tunes every Autobot so that they’re functioning at their best while on the battlefield. Passionate and strict when it comes to his maintenance schedules, Hoist never gives exceptions to anyone when there’s maintenance to be done, even when it’s the Autobot high command.

The figure is a heavy retool of MP-56 Masterpiece Trailbreaker.

Hoist stands roughly 8.25 inches tall and weighs 183 Grams.

Sigh.. the hollow torso is insanely visible here. It wasn’t this bad on Trailbreaker. I wish they covered up the orange interior somehow.

The array on the back of Hoist’s head is actually a “Full Spectrum Multi-Sensor” for scanning and performing diagnostics (I think?), definitely NOT a force field generator like with Trailbreaker.

Hoist comes with an alternate face plate, I’m not sure where this is based on, alternate cartoon model design, perhaps?

I never noticed this in the cartoons, but it seems Hoist can extend out his arms to make it easier to reach higher or further items.

The blast effects parts can be plugged into his arm cannon. Ironically, in the original toy, that’s supposed to be a heat-seeking missile launcher and not a cannon.

As a throwback to the original toy, you get an optional right hand with the set to swap out with the default arm cannon.

The set comes with a wrench/ spanner for Hoist to use to repair his fellow ‘bots.

Hoist also gets his hammer from the episode “Desertion of the Dinobots”.

As a carryover from his vehicle mode gimmick, the giant claw can also be plugged into his backpack when in robot mode. This never actually happened in the cartoons though.

Lastly, included in the set is the alien mask from the episode “Hoist goes to Hollywood”.

Let’s hope at some point Takara Tomy will get around to making MP Powerglide and Warpath to officially complete the “Aliens” scene from the episode.

Comparison with MP-56 Trailbreaker.

Overall, a pretty good Masterpiece release. Lots of details going on here and the accessories really stand out more than your average MP Carbot. With this guy out, we’ve pretty much covered the original 1984 Carbot roster. I really hope Takara Tomy rolls out the Minibots at some point for folks who don’t want to go down the Third-Party path to complete the full Seasons 1 and 2 roster.

The biggest downside with this figure is the glaring empty torso when viewed from certain angles. Sigh. At the very least, Takara should’ve covered up the bright orange interior with something so it doesn’t stand out so much.

Between this or the Fans Toys FT-26 Hitch, I think for things to work out on a display, if one decides to go with FT’s version of Outrider/ Trailbreaker, they should pair it with the FT Hoist/ Hitch, I think that’s the best way to go about it. But that’s just me.
