Transformers Masterpiece MPG-11 DK-2 Guard

His Beta Gun pistols can be stored underneath his vehicle mode.

The Ion Storm Rifle can be mounted onto a port on the vehicle mode’s roof.

The same goes for the Beta gun.

Hailing from the Diakron universe, DK-2 originally needed an Originator to fully function. After being sucked into a portal that transported him into the Transformers Legacy Universe, DK-2 gained sentience and slowly became a full-fledged Cybertronian. Strong and tough, DK-2 excelled in protection missions and specialized in defensive tactics when in the field. His greatest weakness is dealing with his newfound “emotions” and “feelings” that were not present in his core programming back in his original universe.

The figure is a straight up redeco of 2016’s Transformers Masterpiece Ironhide. Its colors are an homage to the vintage Diaclone toy series’ black deco for Ironhide before it was changed to red for the Transformers line. Likewise, his name “DK-2” is meant to homage his numbering in the “Diaclone/Diakron” line as the second release in the series.

Yep… still the same “buttwheels” design issue as Ironhide. Lol..

The legs look so… off, with the vintage-styled details added to them. I guess I’m too used to the clean look of the MP Ironhide’s lower legs.

Similar to Masterpiece Ironhide, DK-2 Guard comes with weapons platform/ faux rear section of its vehicle mode.

You can mount everything here, even the figure’s optional faceplate.

Since we don’t really get much in terms of extra facial reactions here, Takara Tomy decided to include a “Cybertron face” face plate for DK-2 Guard. This weird-looking face is an homage to the vintage toy’s face. His bio states this face pops out as a side effect whenever DK-2 starts to experience emotions (something he is alien to) in his programming as a result of being transported into the Transformers Legacy Universe and slowly becoming more Cybertronian.

Similar to MP Ironhide we also get a “Jump Thruster” backpack for the figure, complete with effects parts.

Twin Beta Guns.

Knockout Bomb and Bomb Catapult

Terrain Scanner

Ion Storm Rifle

Energy Nail hands

Heat Ray Muzzles

Shield Projectors

Overall, not bad. Admittedly, I am getting this guy just to round out the Diaclone figures, which in itself is already something of a deep niche in the Transformers lineup. A part of me does wish Takara Tomy could’ve at least improved the design from the Ironhide figure that was released close to 10 years ago (lol… those buttwheels… really?), but I guess TT just wanted a quick buck and reissued the figure practically straight up.

With this and Lift Ticket now added to the Masterpiece-scale line, I think the only ones missing are a blue redeco of Trailbreaker and a red Mirage to complete the original Diaclone series. Hmm… Masterpiece Mirage soon?
