Transformers Missing Link C-10 Ultra Magnus

These are all the accessories that come inside the Deerstalker box.

Dianaut (aka post-movie Spike Witwicky)

The set comes with alternate adapters for hitching up the cab to the trailer. There’s the classic one that gives Magnus more clearance turn in truck mode, and the newer one, which allows Magnus to have more clearance for his new leg articulation when in robot mode.

With Dianaut Spike.

Too bad Spike can’t fit into the cab anymore with the new Matrix Chamber present. You’ll have to pluck the Matrix chamber out in order to fit him in there.

As an option, you can plug the helmet into the chest panel for storage in truck mode. I honestly cannot remember if this was also a thing back in the G1 toy. I’ll have to try this again one day when I did my encore version out.

Speaking of the chest panel, you can put it into this configuration for the Dianaut figures to ride around. Pretty nifty.

Thanks to the wheels, this thing really can roll around!!

Again, the Dianaut can ride inside the driver’s seat.

Ultra Mangus

Naturally, the figure is a redeco of Missing Link Convoy.

Hands come with a hinge joint to allow for opening up.

The hips are supposed to split to the sides to allow for better posing.

The wheels on the sides also have hinge joints to allow for clearances for the new hip joints.

Magnus comes with his Laser Gun.

With his “armor”.

As an homage to the vintage toy, the trailer still has an optional base mode.

Launching platform mode for the Aerialbots.

Similar to Optimus Prime, the trailer can be stood up to serve as a maintenance deck for Ultra Magnus.

I love all the sculpted details that the figure now sports, as opposed to the original G1 stickers.

Speaking of stickers, thankfully most of the important ones are now tampographed. These almost always peeled off on the old G1 toys.

Transformation notes
New modifications have been added when it comes to connecting Magnus to his trailer. New clamps and connection posts have been included now to secure Magnus in place.

Admittedly, though, I still find Magus tends to come undone too easily even with the new connections.

Armored Ultra Magnus

Selfless, dependable and courageous, all these and more describe Ultra Magnus. While his strength and strong will make him a perfect fit to lead the Autobots if ever something were to ever happen to Optimus Prime, he would prefer the role of a simple soldier unburdened with command responsibility, despite all of his qualities and accomplishments in the field. It’s that exact humility that earns him the respect of his fellow Autobots, as well as even the Decepticons.

Ultra Magnus stands roughly 10 inches tall.

New ankle joints allow for a more stable stance.

Fists can now be opened up. The index fingers are also separate pieces from the rest of the hand.

As mentioned before, the new “belt” allows for the new leg joints to move higher than they would if one simply used the classic “belt”

Remember to unhook this large red tab to unlock the knee joints on the armor.

Magnus’ knees can actually bend past the normal knee joint going forward, this helps with filling out the armor when you’re using the armor unit’s legs.

Magnus’ “Laser Gun” is now called the “Super Blaster Gun” when in this mode.

It’s too bad his shoulder rockets don’t fire anymore.

Thanks to the new joints, the figure becomes so much more playable and looks so much better when holding action poses.

The Dianaut can fit into Ultra Magnus’ hand, but it is tricky to get him to stay there long.

Lastly, Ultra Magnus finally comes with the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. It’s painted silver this time for some reason. There’s also a new design for the front section of this chest panel that allows you to open it up to access the Matrix chamber in his chest. Very cool.

Again, thanks to all the new joints, Ultra Magnus can finally also hold onto the Matrix, kinda. He can only hold the Matrix when his arms are up, so that they can come together close enough grab onto it.

“Open! Dammit, open!”

Deerstalker

With Dianaut Spike.

Naturally, Deerstalker can be loaded into the back of Magnus’ trailer.

Deerstalker robot mode

One of the sharpest detective minds on Cybertron, Deerstalker’s observational skills and intellect are a level above the best. A close friend of Ultra Magnus, he is often tasked with investigating any information leaks the Decepticons may be receiving from spies within the Autobot ranks. He’s also a bit socially awkward, especially around female Transformers.

Due to the lack of any heels, the robot mode tends to tip backwards very easily. You’ll have to pose him with his arms forward to balance out his mass.

With Ultra Magnus.

Overall, pretty good! The new details and poseability knock this one out of the park! It’s also great that Takara Tomy added new diecast parts for certain joints to reinforce them!

Sadly, while I love all the improvements done here over the original G1 toy, it bugs me that Magnus still tends to fall out of his armor a bit too easily. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

I also have a sinking feeling that Takara Tomy will reissue this in cartoon colors down the road. In which case, I’ll probably have to double dip (again). I guess time will tell.
