Transformers More Than Meets The Eye Voyager Class Hot Rod

Reckless, brash, yet brave, loyal and willing to do whatever it takes to save his friends, Hot Rod is a young, tough Autobot with a lot of potential. As an Autobot cavalier, it’s always up to Hot Rod to lead the charge to save the day.

The figure is a redeco of the Studio Series 86 Hot Rod, this time sporting more movie-accurate colors, with the older version’s red deco being replaced with magenta.

Thanks to the magenta color swap, Hot Rod looks like he stepped right out of the movie screen!

Same as before, Hot Rod has a visor that can flipped down and cover his eyes, to recreate that Look Out Mountain battle scene.

Hot Rod’s welding torch can be flipped out from his right wrist to recreate the Kup repair scene on Quintessa.

You can also flip his left hand around to expose a wrist peg for plugging in the buzzsaw accessory.

Hot Rod also comes with his classic dual Photon Lasers.

Too bad Hasbro no longer included the weapon blast effects parts that came with the first release.

New accessories for this set include a “beam sword” and shield to recreate his training scene with the auto-combatant training droid.

Also, Hot Rod this time comes with a brand new fishing rod. Probably the most important accessory, since if he didn’t go fishing with Daniel, they probably wouldn’t have gone to Look Out Mountain and spotted the Decepticons on the shuttle. See? Goofing off does have it’s benefits …

It’s a bit tricky to get Hot Rod to hold the rod properly, but going by the box images, he’s supposed to be holding the stick palm facing down with his right hand.

Lastly, Hot Rod comes with the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Although it’s unpainted this time and lacks the “shinning aura” effects parts.

Thank goodness they changed the color for this roof hinge. The original Studio Series version had a really bad yellow, unpaintable plastic that sticks out like a sore thumb.

The original Studio Series Hot Rod in alt mode.

Same as with the Studio Series 86 version, Hot Rod’s guns can be mounted on his engine block in alt mode.

Lol.. actually, you can mount everything on his engine block. Yeah, this is a laugh riot when you get set up!

Overall, I love it!! While I really loved the Studio Series 86 version, the magenta colors on this one just kick things up to 11 (especially in the car mode) ! The additional new accessories are also a nice add-on to an already impressive set.

The downside is that we lost the Matrix aura effects parts and blaster effects parts that came with the original Studio Series 86. I guess we’ll have to keep both versions in order to complete all of his intended accessories.

This was released as a Target Exclusive in the U.S.
