Transformers Studio Series 86-29 Deluxe Class Bumblebee
“The Depths Of Unicron” backdrop
Small and clever, this little Autobot scout goes the extra mile to prove his worth to his fellow Autobots. While he may be the weakest Autobot, Bumblebee more than makes up for it with bravery and stealth, daring to go the distance to get the job done.
Hmm… I can’t say I like how they decided to go with black windshields for Bumblebee. It just throws off they ongoing blue-painted windshields we’ve got going for the Legacy versions of the Autobots.
While Bumblebee does seem to be small (standing roughly a little over 4 inches), he’s actually the same height as the Netflix War for Cybertron: Siege figure.
Bumblebee’s only accessory is his blaster.
The blaster can be pegged into his back for storage.
Bee’s blaster can be pegged onto the back of the vehicle mode.
I really love the gimmick Hasbro did for making the Autobot symbol appear when he’s in alt mode and “disappear” when he’s in robot mode.
“The Depths Of Unicron” backdrop. This backdrop is meant to recreate the final scene of the movie where the Autobots escape from the inside of Unicron as he’s blowing up.
I didn’t have time to dig out Studio Series 86 Spike to pair up with Bumblebee. I’ll try to do this down the road.
Overall, not that great. While it looks to be the best Bumblebee figure in terms of overall look and shade of yellow. The use of black windows on the figure really throws off the whole “cartoon-accuracy” vibe. I also wish they included more weapons or accessories for this guy. It seems like a real rip-off to pay so much for such a little guy with so little accessories. Sigh..
That said, I’ll still probably choose to this over the Netflix version as my definitive Bumblebee, since the yellow matches the animation models better and proportions look a bit better as well, though a part of me thinks we’ll be seeing this mold again later on in proper colors.
