Transformers Studio Series 86 TS-12 Leader Class Megatron

Lol… they even stickered up the manual cover for the Japanese release.

Megatron, the powerful leader of the Decepticons. Ruthless, cunning and nearly unstoppable, this power-hungry tyrant is driven by his one desire to destroy the Autobots and rule the universe!

Megatron stands roughly 7.5 inches tall.

Lol… the designers decided to leave out the back skirt on this figure…

In a bit of a cheat, Megatron’s back cannon is a removable piece now when you transform him.

Just like Studio Series 86 Optimus Prime, Megatron comes with pointing fingers, too!

Megatron’s headsculpt looks really good!

Of course, Megatron comes with his iconic Fusion Cannon.

The set comes with the laser sword Megatron uses to cut Optimus in the 1986 movie.

Lastly, Megatron comes with the gun version of himself, for other Decepticons to use.

In this case though, you can have him equip it on himself, and we can chalk it up to “animation error”. Lol…

The sword and gun can be pegged onto his back for storage when not in use.

The one thing that prevents this from being the perfect modernized G1 Megatron. The non-gun alt mode.

All of Megatron’s accessories can be mounted onto the alt mode.

Overall, hands down, the best CHUGs Megatron ever! It’s the most screen-accurate depiction of G1 Megatron in robot mode. It just puts the previous versions to shame.
Unfortunately, Megatron suffers the same fate as all other modern renditions of the Decepticon Leader in that the alt mode has been changed to a tank. At least the tank mode isn’t too terrible. I really wonder if someday we’ll ever see a proper “perfect” G1 Megs in all modes for the CHUGs line.
Also, hopefully, the plastic on Megatron won’t yellow out too soon this time around. It was a real buzzkill when that was a QC issue back on the Siege figure.
After the fiasco with SS86 Optimus’ feet being mis-assembled on earlier copies, I decided to pre-order the Takara version for Megatron since it’s been a while since I picked up a Japanese-boxed Megatron figure. It’s a little bit pricier compared to the Hasbro release and the end result is the same as the Hasbro version, I believe.
