Transformers X-Transbots MM-IV+ Ollie Reissue version (Masterpiece Wheelie)
X-Transbots items usually come with an outer plastic baggie to protect the box.
Since this is a Third Party, non-official item, it’s best to get some stickers from Reprolabels/Toyhax.com to make this guy more “toon-accurate”.
To apply, I find the best way to stick the stickers on is to use the tip of a blade, this way you have more control over the application, as compared to using just your fingers. You can also use the blade to help gently peel off a corner of the sticker in case you didn’t center it right and need to re-apply.
Ahh.. Wheelie, the new kid appeal character for the third season, effectively replacing Bumblebee. Unfortunately, unlike Bumblebee, who was tolerable and heroic, Wheelie just likes to rhyme, a lot ! Making him very annoying. As bland and annoying as he was in the US cartoon, he was way worse in the Japanese cartoon, often acting like a brat and loved to hurl insults at Daniel and the other Autobots. Easily not the most liked character around.
Ollie comes with his blaster
He also comes with his iconic slingshot (tuning fork??).
Ollie’s transformation isn’t too difficult, the only real problem is that the latest version (version 3) is shipped in robot mode, while the instructions are done in car to robot (earlier versions were packed in vehicle mode). It’s a bit difficult to navigate the instructions due to this hiccup, not even video guides on Youtube show how to transform him back into vehicle mode.
The only part that gave me problems with the transformation was how the legs were supposed to line up. I finally figured it out and this is what they’re supposed to look like.
Optional clear canopy for vehicle mode is included.
His slingshot can be placed underneath in vehicle mode.
Comparison with MP-45 Bumblebee
With his best bud, Daniel, from the MP-22 Ultra Magnus set. The scale is kinda off I guess?
Ollie stands roughly 4.75 inches and weighs 56 Grams.
Diecast parts include:
–Only the thighs
Ollie comes with an alternate “brighter blue” eyes face, along with the screw driver for it. Thanks X-Transbots!
Overall, it’s not too shabby. The joints are supposedly tighter than the previous releases (this is the version 3 release of this figure), but I’m not feeling it. The figure can still collapse when you don’t stand him properly. I’d hate to imagine what kind of a mess the V1 was. The transformation can be tricky due to reversed instructions (I think the V2 was still packaged in vehicle mode?) but it’s not super difficult to figure out.
For all intents and purposes, this is the only Masterpiece-styled Wheelie figure out there. Love him or hate him, Wheelie is part of the 1986 Transformers Movie mythos and you’re going to need this guy to complete the character list. Fortunately, he’s not too pricey and he’s been reissued twice so it’s not like we need to pay megabucks for this character at the moment.
